Cute story, decent mystery, and an enjoyable cast of characters. I'll keep reading the series.

3.5 stars. Light, easy read. Fun because it’s a cozy mystery set in Texas.

A highly enjoyable paranormal cozy mystery! It would be highly enjoyable no matter the genre label.

I like reading the acknoweldgements for a book from time to time. In PLEATING, Melissa thanks her mother for teaching her to sew for the pride she felt in her newfound ability as a child and that sewing helped her come up with the character of Harlow Cassidy.

Harlow is the great-great-great-granddaughter of Butch Cassidy who threw a coin in an Argentinian fountain and made a wish. So starts the magical abilities of the Cassidy women with their charmed lives. Charmed being what you make of it. Each woman has their own unique ability and Harlow is hard-pressed to figure hers out. She knows she likes dressmaking and hopes to make a go of her dressmaking shop in Bliss, Texas, her hometown.

The mystery solving comes across as natural since Harlow wants to help her friend, Josie, and the police aren't moving in the right direction. The characters are engaging and believable, even the ghost of Meemaw who is a bit of a prankster.

I can't wait for the next in the series, A FITTING END, to come out on 7 Feb 2012. It's pre-ordered with Cynthia at High Crimes Mystery Bookshop ( http://www.highcrimesbooks.com/)

Small town, Butch Cassidy's family line, and magic all in a cozy mystery. Yes, please.

Bliss, TX is the stage for this mystery. Harlow returns home to run her own dressmakers shop. She wonders if her shop will take off since she had been gone from home for a while. All the females in the family each have their gifts. Harlow knows hers was skipped and she doesn't discover it until later. Her high school friend, Josie has asked her to make her wedding dress and all the bridesmaid dresses. When all the wedding party is there, chaos ensues. A body is found in her backyard. Harlow sets out to solve the murder so that the wedding can go on. The characters in this small town are lovable and quirky. Harlow meets Will (the handyman) and there are sparks.

At first, Harlow doesn't trust anyone that she comes in contact with which was a little annoying since she grew up in Bliss. But as the story goes on, she realizes that she has to trust some people to have friendships. I loved the charms that each female character in the family has. By the end of the story, I really enjoyed it. I will read more of this series.

This book was cute. A cozy mystery about a seamstress that moved back to hometown Texas from NYC, with a touch of the paranormal. I overall enjoyed the book but felt like the story got a little muddled in the middle. I will probably check out another in the series when I get the chance.

Cozy. Mystery. Spirits. Family Folklore. Humorous. Non-steamy Romance. Smalltown Vibes. I liked this story. Although it’s a bit of a slow pace, that doesn’t take away from the story, in fact, it adds to that Texas drawl of the book. Everything is bigger in Texas, as the saying goes, and where there is a Cassidy woman there is soon to be trouble. There are some emotional moments, especially when Harlow is talking with her family members and when her best friend Josie talks about her soon to be husband. I really liked that the author spun the tale like thread on a bobbin (ß my mom will be so proud of this description), and it unraveled faster than a kitten playing with a ball of yarn. Harlow designs clothes, and she knows what compliments a person and what will make her shine. She is not a detective by any means, but she’s a woman ready to do anything to help her best friend save her wedding, and if that means finding a killer…well, what’s a gal to do?

Favorite Quote: “To leave the dress undone was the equivalent of starting a book and not finishing it. I couldn’t leave characters hanging in my mind with no conclusion to their story.”

I don't usually go for "Southern"-styled books, but this one seemed to show an actual variety of characters instead of the usual stereotypes. The supernatural elements were also well integrated in a way that felt natural to the story and mystery. To top it off, the romance was well-paced and didn't feel forced. All in all, a good cozy!

Delightful! A great cozy mystery with some endearing characters and a touch of magical whimsey. This is one where I will go looking for others in the series. I wish FURBALL were still with us, because she would have enjoyed it. I will be sending this to my sister-in-law, because the women in this book are rumored to be the descendants of Butch Cassidy and she is actually a descendant of the Parkers (Cassidy's real name) and is a seamstress to boot.
