Fun at the start but the ending wasn’t interesting enough to make me wanna read the second book.
Slow start. Probably 100 pages too long. But I really liked it. One spicy scene, but really a cool storyline. Definitely some ACOTAR vibes. But most fantasy romances have that. I’d recommend this to my friends who want a fantasy book to read. I’m excited to read the second book. Not sure when I’ll start it since I basically did nothing once I started reading this book! Went from page 20-done in a little over a day. Took 11 days to get through the first 20 pages. Like I said. Slow start.

4.5 Stars!
I was really nervous about this one because of the crazy hype it's gotten. And I know people who have both loved it and others who hated it. BUT I actually love it! Lou and Reid are definitely one of my new OTPs! Lou has a sassy, fighting spirit that I adore and Reid is a good balance to her!
Just have to say, I am a non-denominational Christian and I do NOT believe the same stuff they believe in this book. I normally don't bring religion up but because they talk a lot about the Bible, I just wanted to say that that is NOT how it is. That is not what Christian's believe. This religion in this book is more align with old Catholicism which is NOT the same thing as what I believe. That stuff is creepy.

It's enjoyable but it really feels like an unpolished fanfic with the "only one bed" and "accidental marriage" tropes. The set-up is quite ridiculous, some of the "twists" and scenes are just... unnecessary and I feel like there was nearly no depth to the characters. It seems like the plot was written for the romance and not the other way round.

Review for the entire trilogy, without spoilers:
I’ve seen MANY bad reviews for this series but I find it very entertaining! Hence the high ratings. I haven’t read many books in the YA-fantasy-romance genre so perhaps it’s because I have less expectations.
I like the simplicity of the story, it doesn’t stray too far from the premise, and it explores the landscape of the fictional country it’s set in rather well. The conflicts & drama are well paced, except in the beginning of book 2. The third act of all the books are immensely satisfying. The magic system is okay, not groundbreaking but interesting enough.
The characters! They main protagonists & their friends feel alive. They are young & stubborn. May not be the most likeable characters but they have depth that is believable.
The antagonists are a bit more simplistic but it’s forgivable. Overall, it’s a very enjoyable trilogy!
