Boring

I really enjoyed reading this book, up until the point Lou became a damsel in distress and then it just wasn't fun anymore. I don't think they did justice to Lou's character in the end.
It was fun tho - lots of similarities between Nina and Matthias story lines.
Overall, def more enjoyable than some of the other books I've read, but not without critique

4.5 stars

Приятна изненада се оказа книгата. Историята на Лу беше забулена в тайни, което поддържа интереса. В началото не ме впечатли Рийд, но определено еволюира. Книгата е добро и различно четиво. Хареса ми историческата нотка.

*Language warning and sex references in this book*
I love the marriage of convenience trope and I think that Mahurin did a great job in making a compelling story and narrative. However, I felt like there could have been more plot development and world building.

Around the middle of the book I was a little lost of where the book was actually going. When things did happen, I understood but we definitely could have been led there better. World building, I was a little lost on the magic system and how it worked and then at the end
Spoilera demon
shows up which could have/should have been foreshadowed more because I don't know the significance of that detail.

I think I'll read the next book because, like I said the characters are compelling and the broad aspects of the book were interesting.

“It doesn’t end in death. It ends in hope.” - Shelby Mahurin

Well, first of all, there is nothing subtle about this book. Every event and plot twist is painfully foreshadowed (with the exception of one twist that was fairly well done), the characters’ personalities are well defined but lack nuance (though they are admittedly entertaining and endearing), and the magic and fight scenes are full of shocking and graphic descriptions. Again, subtlety was not this book’s strength. Despite this, I stayed up late with it and was very entrained by much of the banter, so if you like YA fantasy this will still be an entertaining read.
