I went into this book totally blind, and then spoiled some of it because I couldn't resist looking up the characters to see some fanart. i do be kinda dumb
n e ways, this was such a fun read! enemies to lovers and witches? sign me up
parts i liked:
-lou driving reid crazy
-lou and coco's friendship! <3
-ik some people disagree but i actually did think the book was funny sometimes
-
parts i didn't like so much:
-hardly any diversity
-that pub song was kinda funny the first three times they mentioned it, and then i was kinda over it. ESPECIALLY when they sang it it just made me roll my eyes.
-it felt like all the action was kinda squeezed into the end of the book, like it wasn't properly paced.
I've heard blood and honey isn't as good plot-wise, but ima still read it bc i always care about characters more than plot anyway. plus i need more lou and reid banter

The sun was still beautiful. And despite everything, it was still setting. I closed my eyes and basked in its warmth.

So. I have mixed feelings about this book. The enemies-to-lovers romance angle was very good. But I spent the first quarter confused about what was happening, and I felt like it wasn’t until the last quarter that the plot really picked up. The magic systems remained confusing throughout. The twists really served the plot well, though, and I liked the characters. Pretty solidly a three star book for me.
The world could definitely be more build up and developed but I loved the way everything was revealed throughout the book and am gagging for the next one! I felt like I was holding my breath for the ultimate secret leak the entire time. I love knowing more than the characters especially when you see from both sides

I just don't know what to say, the characters are so lovable and it's a good quick read I just wish that Lou was more idk... powerful? While I get that she's out of practice and perhaps the second book will see her build on her magic, her lineage should have some benefits (otherwise how is her family still in power?). However I love Reid's soft boi persona rather than the typical tall dark and handsome stranger with a dark past lol. Overall, I read it in a day and was hooked until the end on the world building, camaraderie and fleshed out magic system.
Loved the world building, the characters, and the storytelling. Looking forward to the sequel to see where they go from here.
I liked how we got a strong female main character that wasn't afraid to push the limits on aggravating Reid. Loved how she cursed like a sailor and didn't care.
The side characters of Coco and Ansell were just as entertaining. I hope we get more of them in the next book.

I really like this book. I love a good enemies to lovers. It has arranged marriage. The ending was a huge shock and I can’t wait to see you where it goes
While slow to start, Serpent and Dove quickly became a favorite. Full of fun characters with interesting back stories, I thoroughly enjoyed this wicked tale of magic, love, and sacrifice.
