I found a lot of these really upsetting, a bald look at the parts of humanity that makes me sad.
Sometimes sad, sometimes slightly haunting and surreal, this was a good collection of short stories.

Excellent writing and remarkable manipulation of structure. A few of the stories were utterly captivating. I actually wish I’d encountered them separately, not in a collection. The prevailing themes in this book created a sense of sameness between the stories, for me. I was left with an impression of a lot of mediocre husbands, echoing grief, and self-destructive behavior.
Unsettling and eerily realistic stories, loved this little collection.

Super enjoyed this collection. There’s a dark, uneasy, almost spooky undercurrent in each stories, all about women lost: in themselves, their lives, foreign countries, their past, their grief. Sometimes at the edge of themselves, their relationships. All told with simple, precise language, in often mundane moments. I always love when writers are able to pinpoint a very specific but complex feeling with just a few very well chosen words, like when she writes in the anonymous story: All she wants is to feel like she isn’t being destroyed by the world, even as she doubts she has any right to feel destroyed at all.
