The fact that some schools ban this book is beyond me. Very powerful reading about the nature of humanity, albeit very crude and pessimistic.

4.5/5 just because I found it a bit slow at the start

I read this for the first time as an adult and it was an interesting look at human nature. It felt very plausible, which is telling, since it was so horrific. Especially with them being kids. I loved all the symbolism throughout. I think it was especially poignant reading it in today's society and political climate, as we seem to be moving more towards the uncivilized, tyrannical, and mob-mentality side of things. This was written so long ago, but these themes have played out many times throughout history. I can see why this is a good book to analyze in school! Definitely a book everyone should read at least once.

Not a fan of this book. Weird concept and confusing ending. I wouldn't read again.

Lots of imagery. If you don't like complex allegory and explanation, this book isn't for you.

William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”  is a powerful allegorical novel that explores the thin veneer of civilization and the descent into savagery. Through haunting imagery and symbolism, Golding delves into themes of power, morality, and human nature, showing how societal structures can collapse in the absence of order.

The characters, particularly Ralph, Piggy, and Jack, represent different facets of human behavior, from reason and intellect to primal aggression. The unsettling atmosphere and thought-provoking narrative make it a gripping read, but its dark portrayal of humanity’s potential for violence leaves a lasting impact.
