Review up soon!

This is my second time reading this series, and I honestly expected to not enjoy it as much as I did the first time, but I quite enjoyed it!

The first book was a bit slower, but I'm excited to finish my reread of the trilogy with "Ascend" in the near future!

#TeamLoki

I won this book thru a contest here from the publisher and after reading the first one and liking it quite a bit, I was a little disappointed with this one. It was still good, but not nearly as exciting as I thought it would be. I guess I expected a bit more action and a lot less drama.

With Wendy running away with Rhys at the end of the last book to go home to Matt, we all knew it wouldn't be long until she was attacked by Vittra again. No matter what she thought. Her capture is short lived though, with escape coming way too easy. But we do find out about her father and exactly why the Vittra want her so bad. We also are officially introduced to Loki. Oh how I love him. He is nothing like what you would think given his background and does what you would expect the least. When Wendy is taken back home to the Trylle, the rest of the book is pretty much all about her training with Tove to control and strengthen her powers. Loki even shows up and allows himself to be captured. Which was fun. When she's not training, Wendy is either fighting with Finn or moping about Finn. It was kind of annoying. Okay, maybe more than kind of. She constantly did stupid things and caused trouble in this book that were just frustrating to read about because they were so bad. Something happens with Elora and Wendy is pretty terrified of having to become queen far too soon when she is so ill prepared for it. But that's not the most immediate thing to happen. She has gotten herself engaged and we end with her on her way to the party.

There was one moment when I was pleased with Wendy toward the end. I am quite tired of Aurora's attitude toward Wendy and Elora. With them being of such a higher rank though, it shouldn't be even happening. So it's annoying when Wendy doesn't stand up for herself. That's why when she finally snapped at Aurora and put her in her place I couldn't help but think it was about time. I also can't wait for her almost obsession with Finn to just be done with. She claims she's over him because all he does is push her away and will always choose duty first, but yet she's always thinking about him and wanting to see him. Let's move on already, you barely knew the guy and know you won't be together anyway.

And I don't like Tove's secret that we find out in the end. I don't see it at all and think it was just used in the story to make it easier to explain away something.

I liked the change that Willa goes thru as we move on. She is maturing in a way and becoming a better person it seems. Though the thing with Matt seems a bit abrupt and odd...

I am so ready for more Loki though.

Yes, this book was way better than its prequel. Mainly because of the addition of my favorite character: Loki. I don't know if it's because of it's name but I loved him almost from the start.
Such an improvement when compared to Finn. Still no love for that boy.
Our MC also shows progress, less teenagey behavior. Although I don't think we'll ever be besties or the like. We're too different in character.
Story wise the progress is also great, we can finally see the big picture and I;m really curious as to how everything will end.
Even though I'm way more invested, characters still feel a bit flat to me. Hopefully that will change with the last book :)

The second book in the Trylle trilogy, Torn was even better than the first. The whole troll idea hasn't been played out, even though they aren't the traditional trolls that are short, green and live under bridges. :)
Wendy leaves the palace, and her place as princess to return to her human family. Without the protection of the guards the Vittra are able to kidnap her for their king. Both Matt and Rhys were with her, and were kidnapped as well. Now that the secret is out, Wendy is able to tell Matt all about her true heritage. Wendy is still hurt over losing Finn, which is one of the reasons she returned home. Anything else would be too much, spoilers below, or just read it.

***Spoilers***
Wendy is captured by the Vittra, specifically Loki. He isn't at all like the others of his kind, he doesn't want to kidnap her, or harm her. While she is held hostage she learns the rest of the secret of her history. The Vittra king, Oren is her father. He and her mother were married for a short time, it was arranged to bring the two kingdoms together but once Elora learned what an evil man he was she couldn't stay with him. He didn't want to send Wendy to be a changeling, he wanted to keep her close. Elora knew that she couldn't allow him to raise their daughter, so she hid her away. Now Wendy is the rightful heir to both the Trylle, and the Vittra kingdoms. Loki allows the princess, Matt, and Rhys to escape when Finn, Tove, and Duncan arrive to break them out. She and Loki have a strange relationship. He is threatened with death by the king almost daily. He actually has Trylle blood but his father was a traitor who joined the Vittra. (Just my personal opinion, but I think she should be with him. It's almost like Adrian & Rose. If she can't be with Finn, at least he is of royal blood and she actually likes him.) When Loki comes to the Trylle kingdom to ask the princess to return, he is captured, and used as a bargaining piece to gain a few months reprieve. The Vittra agree to stop all attacks until after Wendy is queen. While planning her arranged wedding to Tove (supposedly it's the best thing for their people), taking over most of Elora's duties because she is too sick to attend them, and catching up on the Trylle history so that when she is queen she will know her people, she and Finn have one last hot makeout session. He is giving her up for her own good (aren't they always). Oh and she also kisses Loki when he comes to plead with her once again to leave, but this time to run away with him and leave both kingdoms behind. At the end of the book Loki comes back to the kingdom, beaten and disheveled, asking the princess for amnesty.
