Torn

Amanda Hocking

3.8 AVERAGE

The second book in the Trylle trilogy, Torn was even better than the first. The whole troll idea hasn't been played out, even though they aren't the traditional trolls that are short, green and live under bridges. :)
Wendy leaves the palace, and her place as princess to return to her human family. Without the protection of the guards the Vittra are able to kidnap her for their king. Both Matt and Rhys were with her, and were kidnapped as well. Now that the secret is out, Wendy is able to tell Matt all about her true heritage. Wendy is still hurt over losing Finn, which is one of the reasons she returned home. Anything else would be too much, spoilers below, or just read it.

***Spoilers***
Wendy is captured by the Vittra, specifically Loki. He isn't at all like the others of his kind, he doesn't want to kidnap her, or harm her. While she is held hostage she learns the rest of the secret of her history. The Vittra king, Oren is her father. He and her mother were married for a short time, it was arranged to bring the two kingdoms together but once Elora learned what an evil man he was she couldn't stay with him. He didn't want to send Wendy to be a changeling, he wanted to keep her close. Elora knew that she couldn't allow him to raise their daughter, so she hid her away. Now Wendy is the rightful heir to both the Trylle, and the Vittra kingdoms. Loki allows the princess, Matt, and Rhys to escape when Finn, Tove, and Duncan arrive to break them out. She and Loki have a strange relationship. He is threatened with death by the king almost daily. He actually has Trylle blood but his father was a traitor who joined the Vittra. (Just my personal opinion, but I think she should be with him. It's almost like Adrian & Rose. If she can't be with Finn, at least he is of royal blood and she actually likes him.) When Loki comes to the Trylle kingdom to ask the princess to return, he is captured, and used as a bargaining piece to gain a few months reprieve. The Vittra agree to stop all attacks until after Wendy is queen. While planning her arranged wedding to Tove (supposedly it's the best thing for their people), taking over most of Elora's duties because she is too sick to attend them, and catching up on the Trylle history so that when she is queen she will know her people, she and Finn have one last hot makeout session. He is giving her up for her own good (aren't they always). Oh and she also kisses Loki when he comes to plead with her once again to leave, but this time to run away with him and leave both kingdoms behind. At the end of the book Loki comes back to the kingdom, beaten and disheveled, asking the princess for amnesty.

Better than the first! Loved the short story at the end

3.5 stars! A major step up from the first novel. Things are really starting to get interesting and exciting in this book!

This series gets even better as it goes on, grabbing you and keeping you interested till the end, and then leaving you wanting more. Amanda Hocking's writing is simple, with amazing examples to describe things. The characters she's created for this series are also great, making you really connect with them, therefore, sucking you into the story. You really feel like you're in their world.

The plot is amazing, a real page-turner. This series really makes you want to read as fast as possible to know what will happen next. I stayed up really late to read this book, always telling myself "oh I'll just read one more chapter" but it was nearly impossible to put the book down.

The relationship between Wendy and Finn is tensing, and now Tove is even more wrapped up in the story. Also, a new character is introduced. One that will have you completely mesmerized. Loki. A Vittra prince who is completely fascinated with Wendy.

I love all the little details Amanda puts into these book. If you go to her website, worldofamandahocking.com you can look at Elora's paintings, look at a lay-out of the castle, read about the five tribes, and more.

I absolutely loved this book!! I was in a bit of a reading slump so it took me awhile to get into it, but once I did I couldn't put it down. I think it was just as good as the first book, [b:Switched|11457525|Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1)|Amanda Hocking|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317794316s/11457525.jpg|13433455], though in a different way. In Switched Wendy found out that she was a Trylle Princess and was being pursued fervently by the Vittra. Wendy discovered that there were a lot of secrets being kept from and, in Switched, she only found partial answers to very few of the questions she asked. Torn sheds light on a lot of the vague answers Elora gave in Switched, and while the Vittra do try to get Wendy, a lot of the book is Wendy discovering that the Trylle need her, and that she must do her duty to save her people. It was nice to see Wendy realize what she must do, and think of things other than what she wanted. Not that she was selfish before, because she wasn't, but in lieu of what came to light throughout Torn, her previous actions and attitude now seem a little self-centered.

As expected, the book was well written and the story moved along at a good pace, though at times it would jump forward with no warning and that bothered me a little. I loved the ending to the book. It was a good ending, one that wrapped up the book nicely, and one that I might have expected at the end of a series. Though it wrapped up well, it was still a cliffhanger, and I liked how the author combined the two. I cannot wait for the final Trylle book, [b:Ascend|11947829|Ascend|Amanda Hocking|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317794443s/11947829.jpg|17385456].

The short story that came in the back, One Day: Three Ways was really good, too. I liked reading from Finn, Tove, and Loki's point-of-views and I liked that it let you see what each of them really feels for Wendy.

You gotta love teenage love triangles. lol.

ALSO awesome. Review cooomming

4 Torn Stars

Ok the story is moving forward and I am liking it, Wendy and I are still friends lol, I like that she is starting to stand up for herself. A lot more has happened and it’s all a little much for our Wendy but I think she is handling it pretty well if I don’t say so myself

I want to shake the F out of Finn. But maybe I will get over that. ;)

I love Duncan! Bahaha he is like the favorite cousin you can’t help but love because he just wants what is best for you.
I love me some Loki!! I can’t help it you know he isn’t all bad and he is trying to do what he thinks is best even if that means being punished for it. Someone needs to take the KING DOWN!!!

I can't wait to see what is going to happen next.

Loving Willa and her story, I hope we get a little more of her she is the perfect bestie for Wendy. :) I kind of miss Reese in this book; we had a lot of him at the beginning but not so much since then.

Again … I lovvvvvvvvvve the narration. Therese Plummer is my jam.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Amazing :)
