A really excellent, engaging tale with some intriguing magic, and a lot of fascinating characters. Highly recommended.

(Interestingly this is the third book/series I've read this year featuring a cross-dressing heroine.)

Honestly, much better than I expected. Romance heavy, but with a sound plot and a good amount of action. I'm generally not a fan of historical fantasy, but this was entertaining, and managed to provide nuance to the plight of a hero. 4.5 stars!

I had higher expectations for this book - give its a lady pirate and it begins with her facing her (not dying fast enough) mother and the expectations that lady placed on her (and never forgave her for not living up to).

In the end though it just wasn't fascinating enough to me to read in one go (it took me a couple months).

This was really, really good. I can't remember where I learned about it (honestly, I think it was in a list of books that most people missed in 2016 or 2015 or some such), but I'm so glad I took the time to find it and read it.

Rossalinde is an excellent heroine, the world that Bedford's built around her is super duper interesting, and the love interest is, ahem, a very...delightful character. (I'm looking forward to learning more about him in the next book in the trilogy!)

Anyway, this is definitely worth a read if Magical Lady Pirate/Privateer sounds up your alley. (I ask you, who would NOT want to read about a magical lady pirate?)
