Dragon marked

Interesting start to a series. I’m curious to see who Jess’s ends up with but my money is on Braxton. I loved the characters but Jessa did come off as immature sometimes.

Overall I did enjoy the book. However, there were definitely some issues with the story telling/character building, particularly with the main character. Its the same epidemic that plagues many YA-esque type books, where the lead female is supposed to be this strong, super talented and most importantly intelligent being yet somehow whenever the time comes for them showcase these top notch skills... *insert tumble weed* i.e. breaking into the prison/arrest??? I mean seriously! we're just supposed to swallow Jessa's logic behind that...right. Also, it sure did take a while for us to get to that prison bit despite the premise of the book being Jessa locked up. She spent a good portion on the book wondering around free, eating a lot.

But I digress, the foundations of the book were really interesting and I'm probably going to read the follow up to see how things developed as it did get more interesting towards then, even if the plot was a bit rushed (you can blame that on time spent listening to Jessa get over emotional over food)

2.5⭐️ DNF 42%. YA

I tried.
I tried skimming and skipping. Just couldn’t get fully into it.
It wasn’t bad exactly, just too young.
I was expecting something very different. Despite the occasional swearing, allusions to sex and violence, it felt very YA.
The characters were meant to be around 22, but read like somewhere between 17-19, and sheltered, immature versions at that.

Plus the writing felt disjointed and choppy at times. Though that could just be a stylistic choice, plus a result of the younger character interactions and behaviour …?

Seriously didn’t enjoy the stereotypical gender portrayals and allusions.
Women were either image obsessed, sex obsessed, or bitchy-tough-nuts… Suppose it could have been worse (of course, all thinner builds were sexually unappealing, and unattractive, real women must have abundant curves

Maybe someday when the apocalypse isn't looming I'll have more patience for something vulgar and juvenile.

Or maybe I'll just put this up on eBay.

Fun and gripping

Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Can't wait to read more and see how relationships develop going forward. This is my second series in reading of hers and I love the witty banter and dialogue that her characters have.

Although a lot of readers didn't like this, I AM ABSOLUTELY in love with the book.
Jaymin Eve knows how to work around to build a story and hook a reader. I could not leave the book. It was like.... I HAD TO FINISH IT.
A must try.

Quickie Review

I enjoyed this one more probably than a woman my age should. It was, I'd say, towards the NA end of the YA spectrum, and yet the main character, Jessa, and the four Compass brothers (her pseudo pack) are kind of like one big giggling pile of naughty puppies, even though Jessa's the only one who's actually a wolf! I liked how protective they were of Jessa, and the little family-like unit they'd created came across as believable. I also loved the hint of something extra that may or not be felt towards one of them in particular!

The story was engaging throughout and very original. I'd say I've read my fair share of these types of books and found this one to be a breath of fresh air and a very quick read (as in I couldn't put it down so it was finished quickly!).

If you're thinking of picking this one up you will want the next one, and even better, the whole trilogy handy, as they tend to end with a gasp!

A great start to a super fun trilogy. I highly recommend it.

Along with a long list of issues right off the bat, the kicker is finding "hella" printed in a book. No thank you.
