Five Dark Fates

A really satisfying conclusion to the series. Although has left me curious for more.

It made me cry multiple times, and I can think of no better praise for a book. A satisfying end to the series.

To be honest, I’m glad this series is over (this is book 4/4). I loved the first book, but every book after was just okay - yet they always pulled me in with a twist at the end. The world Blake has created on Fennbirn is phenomenal - women dominated with magic abound, set on an invisible island off the coast of whatever country you see fit. The characters feel alive and really demonstrate how magical familial connections can be. But the plot just lagged - near nothing at all happened in this book or the ones before it. I’d definitely recommend the first book in the series - Three Dark Crowns - but its sequels, including this one, are not particularly worth your time.

Side note: I have a bone to pick with these titles - the series order of the numbers in the titles goes: three, one, two, five. WHY?? Also, from this title, you’d think it’d be clear which five characters have the dark fates, yet I still have absolutely no idea.

This took me a long time to get through and I think it was probably just the season of life I was in, because I still stand by my firm belief that this is a fantastically imagined world and a fresh fantasy angle!

Finally this series is over! This all could have been condensed into 2 books been a fantastic duology, not short stories needed!

Apesar disso, consegui sentir-me cativada e agarrada ao livro. Queria saber como tudo ia acabar. No entanto, não é, de todo, o melhor encerramento de uma série. Mas super recomendo os quatro livro porque o conceito é super interessante e os livros são super bem escritos.

I absolutely love this series and all of its dark twists and turns yet, I kind of feel let down by the ending it was just meh.

However it’s quite possibly due to the fact that Arsinoe and mainly Jules weren’t my favourite characters (specifically because Jules irritated the hell out of me throughout the entire series).

Also, the way Mirabella died by just tumbling off a cliff and then Katherine tumbles of a rooftop and dies (almost identically to her oldest sister)... I mean I knew people were going to die but I didn’t expect this, especially when there was hope that all three sisters could live and work together.

In the end, it is Jules who becomes Queen of Fennbirn, even though I personally would’ve liked to have seen Arsinoe officially became queen after going through all that trouble, regardless that she is my least favourite of the three queens.

Overall, the storyline throughout the series and in this particular book is quite entertaining I just wish the ending was more grand.
