I’m giving this book four (4) stars because it really made me feel things. Horrible, uneasy, Ineverwanttofeelthisagain things. It achieved its goal of inciting fear and I would say the end was satisfying, but I wish it was longer; we could see the unfolding of the end rather than a climatic scene and a retrospective recount from the omniscient narration. It kind of makes me want to read more thriller novels, but this was just so scary because of how unhinged the MC is… and I can’t help but think about something someone told me about these kinds of books written by men being a twisted outlet of their darkest fantasies… Yuck! I want to go back to reading romance now.

Maybe it's time to change genres or maybe this book just turned me off to much during the beginning. Either way won't change the fact that I'll take a stop in reading this but I'll definitely pick it up again someday just to see how it goes and whether or not the author will prove or disprove my theory that all men named James are full of shit

For my first Peter James book, a decent medical thriller that delves into the mind of a stalker. If suspension of disbelief is held as well as some patience for the occasionally corny dialogue, this was a nice and easy read with enough intensity to draw the reader in. Few things are more terrifying than someone in a position of authority abusing that and I really felt myself rooting for Marcus Valentine’s demise as the story progressed. Immersive albeit a little extreme, Peter James pushes the limits of how far a narcissist can go.

My first Peter James book and overall i enjoyed it, but it really did make my skin crawl in parts and made me feel all kind of emotions - anger, frustration, relief, just all of it.

I really enjoyed this one. Nothing groundbreaking. It's the story of an obsessive Dr called Marcus Valentine. He's got an obsessive personality. He can be quite controlling. The plot is pretty clippy. It rolls along easily. He meets a new person to be obsessed with.
It highlights the potential issues of sharing something as innocuous as your latest exercise routine. Especially when it's a GPS route of your run from out of your door, around a park and back to your house again. I mean, it's a stalker's wet dream.
What I particularly liked about this novel was how rounded the character of Marcus was. Little comments he made would absolutely turn your stomach. Every time he posed as charismatic, it was just the right amount of unsettling. Not enough that you felt like the other characters were idiots for not realising. But just that slight... Offness that I think is a credit to the writer.
Speaking as a writer, there's a fair few things I'd have employed to kick it up a notch. It did seem like the pace was good until halfway and then it just seemed to speed up a little too much. I always find these books are way too eager to get to the end. Maybe it's a failure in the process of writing. The author is very prolific. Might do them well to write it out and then put it aside for a period of time to settle a bit.
