Questa è la review congiunta di Beautiful Disaster e Walking Disaster, che ho letto nel giro di due giorni uno dopo l'altro e, beh, essendo basilarmente la stessa storia mi sembrava inutile scrivere due diverse recensioni.
Iniziamo col dire che ho preso in mano Beautiful Disaster perchè continuavo a vedere su Goodreads mie conoscenti/amiche che ne parlavano e mi ero incuriosita. Non mi aspettavo niente e ancora non sapevo che questo libro fosse l'ultimo "Twilight" della moda editoriale.
Abby è una brava ragazza che nasconde un segreto. Travis è un bad boy fatto e finito che si innamora di lei e per lei vuole essere una persona migliore.
Vi ricorda niente? Ebbene si, all'inizio anche io sono rimasta sconcertata dalle somiglianze con Tre metri sopra il cielo di Moccia, con sdolcinerie tipiche della Meyer, e ne sono rimasta un po' disgustata. Poi la storia va avanti e, holy shit, Abby ha due brass balls mica male. Primo, scopriamo che è una giocatrice di poker professionale, una leggenda (molto bad ass) che vuole riformarsi, e secondo ha il coraggio di lasciare il ragazzo che ama perchè, diciamocelo, è un bad boy, man-whore, ubriacone, con seri problemi di gelosia e possessivismo, e pure uno che combatte illegalmente. Io, per quanto affascinata dal personaggio nel mondo letterario, non mi metterei mai con uno così nella vita reale. Voi? Quindi no, non accetto le critiche su Abby, anzi la ammiro per la forza di volontà che la aiuta a prendere scelte che le spezzano letteralmente il cuore.
Questa parte della trama in walkind disaster è abbastanza noiosa, Travis è così assorbito dalle sue seghe mentali (scusate il termine) ops volevo dire dalle sue sofferenze interiori, che non capisce assolutamente Abby e la fa passare sulla carta come una bambinetta viziata. Povero lui, che stava cercando di cambiare. Certo però questo non gli impediva di scoparsi ogni donna facile che incontrava quando già sapeva di avere sentimenti per Abby. No, no Travis love here.
Apprezzo comunque il suo desiderio di redimersi e di essere una persona migliore per Abby, per meritare di stare con lei. Questa storia trasmette dei sentimenti veri. Anche nei loro errori (es Abby che lascia passare mesi e mesi per orgoglio personale, facendo stare malissimo sia lei e Travis, quando potevano rimettersi insieme già al Ringraziamento. O Travis che continua a ubriacarsi e ha tutte le intenzioni di scoparsi Megan. Bleah.)
Il resto della storia è filling fino all'happy ending, bello in beautiful disaster e stupendo in Walking disaster (ha fatto salire di una stellina il giudizio di quest'ultimo libro).
Il fatto che so ci saranno anche i libri dei fratelli Maddox nel prossimo futuro poi non può che rendermi felice.
Travis come agente dell'FBI? Ce lo vedo in pieno.
La mia scena preferita rimane in entrambi i libri quella in cui Abby batte a poker i vari Maddox e si rivela Lucky Thirteen.
Bad, bad Thomas, che nascondevi anche tu un grosso segreto tutto questo tempo, non vedo l'ora di leggere la tua storia.
Nota di merito anche per Shep e America, dei bei personaggi, ho apprezzato soprattutto la leatà di lei nei confronti di Abby, che la spinge addirittura a rompere con il ragazzo che ama. Questa si che è amicizia!

cuando me lo leí con 15 años me parecía totalmente normal las reacciones de ira de Travis hasta que con los años me he dado cuenta de que este chico necesita un psicólogo y tallares de desarrollo de habilidades para el control de la ira pero bueno, el mismo lo reconoce también asi que besitos para travis
I love the story from the Guy’s perception, so why not go for it… I really enjoy he’s side of the story. You can definitely understand a little the why behind He’s personality and actions.
Sigh. I'm going to preface this review by saying I loved Beautiful Disaster and read it close to a hundred times. I wasn't feeling as much love for Walking Disaster. It was mostly a blatant rip-off of Beautiful Disaster (same dialogue, same description), just slightly changed and told from Travis's perspective. The parts of the book that really shined for me were the parts that were uniquely Travis, and not already discussed in Beautiful Disaster. Also, Abby came across as obnoxious, unlikeable and annoying. It kills me to say this, but I wasn't a fan. It was a huge let-down.
This is waaaaaaaay better than Abby's version, and she annoyed me in this one because she was so mean!
I love that they didn't end at the same part, Travis took us a little further, that was cool

Just as good as the first one, nice to hear the tender side of Travis that we knew was there all along! And my favorite part is that there is an epilogue!! Yay for some closure!

All two stars are for a decent last chapter and epilogue. Otherwise, I'd have given it one star for a re-hash of "Beautiful Disaster" and costing me almost EIGHT extra Kindle cliterature dollars for the same story all over again. This just seemed like a huge money grab to me.
This book was just meh. Good in parts, excellent in a couple of spots, and downright boring and repetitive everywhere else. The writing is decent but the story seemed familiar... oh yes, I remember. I've already read this. It was called "Beautiful Disaster."
There was one new insight in WD. Abby is an incredible bitch in this book. She was a low level bitch in the first book but it wasn't as obvious to me. In this one, she takes resting bitch face to the next level. Then, at the end, Abby chalks her behavior up to her super awesome "poker face." Um, what? That's one mean-ass pokerface, Abs, leading a guy around by his dick like that when you really wanted him all along. Whore.
I am an avid reader. A character's actions give me a pretty solid idea of what they are thinking, no matter the POV. It's like... Jamie, seriously, did you really think you had to spell it all out for me? ? For realsises? Do you think all of your readers are that dumb? Wait... don't answer that.
If McGuire had just slapped that epilogue on the end of "Beautiful Disaster," I could have the 15 minutes spent writing this review back and my life would be much improved. Maybe.
The whole situation just left me frustrated. Kinda like Travis through this entire book save the last 2 chapters. Poor guy. Poor me. Poor you if you read it. Save your money.
