Covers the first two books in the Warriors' series! Really enjoyed the detailed artwork and the cats come to life on the pages.

It was so nice seeing a childhood favorite in a new format but wow did it feel so rushed. It felt like it was lacking in all the things that made you really love the characters. Like ravenpaw just feels like a background character in this, even though he’s important to the plot. If I had read this not already knowing into the wild like the back of my hand I wouldn’t have enjoyed reading this.

This book is such a love letter to the warriors art cats series and art community as a whole. I absolutely adored the devotion, enthusiasm and creativity embedded into every single page. The entire book has so much heart and soul, it is impossible not to be charmed by it.

The illustrations are gorgeous, and the visual storytelling was easy to follow (granted, I have read the first series multiple times)- hats off to the artists, they truly did a phenomenal job. I adored looking at every single page.

Furthermore, I like how the illustrations built upon some aspects of the original material to add a layer of depth and interpretation to it, most notably Bluestar’s affection and trust towards Yellowfang, I think, enhances the narrative as it gives her more motive to push for Yellowfang’s protection (and is also really cute).

My only criticism of the book is that narratively, squashing two stories into one graphic novel makes the pacing absolutely bonkers. With less than a third of the book left we see Fireheart mentoring Cinderpaw, him getting closer with Sandpaw, Graystripe getting saved by and falling for Silverstream and a whole BATTLE happening completely out of left field - all within a couple dozen pages. My head was spinning towards the ending thinking about how Graystripe was practically a baby at the start of the book and now, because of how the stories are merged, he’s only a hop skip and a near death experience away from becoming a father, it all happens dizzyingly quickly.

Also I cannot critique the art in any way, it is stunning and I would not be able to “do a better job” nor would I wish to try, so this is a mere matter of visual preference, but I thought that some of the cat designs looked a little strange in terms of face shapes. I noticed it most often in Ravenpaw, who looks uncanny and a bit humanoid due to his long forehead. However, I will admit it is the diversity in the character designs that allow for every character to stand out, so I suppose that is a silver lining of that oddity. Lastly, occasionally some of the muzzles looked a bit bizarre, especially if a cat was shouting or growling they would end up looking very strange and perhaps even ominous.
