Outstanding. A book within a book about a book within a book. Marvelous.
Most of the characters in this book are quite likeable. I particularly enjoyed Marcus and Harry. The twists and turns of the first half were great.
Nola, the “love” character was consistently rather unlikeable for me. No matter what Dicker wrote, I wasn’t sold on her features and character.
The repetition and copy-pasting of text fragments over and over was boresome. In the end I just skipped the whole thing.
Then, after the second half, the whole thing went down the gutter. The way the story was being solved, and the twists and turns added to it were so fake, so cinematic it just turned the book into a cheap plot.
The willingness of the police to share all with the writer... what sort of stupid idea is that? Did the writer read The Shack before this?
In summary, it was pretty bad in parts and pretty good in others, so it evens out in a 3.
I sure as hell won’t be recommending this book if asked.

De las mejores novelas sobre crímenes que he leído. El mejor giro, a parte del momento en el que descubres que la madre está muerta, es el final, ya que entiendes que la muerte de Nola (el caso del que trata todo el libro) es solo un daño colateral.
Una novela que atrapa con facilidad, tiene muchos giros que lo hacen a uno mantenerse muy entretenido. No me pareció particularmente excepcional, desde temprano esperaba algunas de las revelaciones que se hicieron al final, pero eso no me impidió disfrutarlo. Como lectura ligera y veranera, es aceptable. La única cosa que de verdad no me gustó la glorificación del amor de un adulto por una adolescente, por mucho que se haya pintado como algo 'mutuo'. Me pareció muy desagradable y no entiendo porque más personas no lo advierten o critican.
at the beginning i also made some predictions. as follows: 1) that the luther character would fulfill a disgusting lenny of mice and men role (correct), 2) that there would be a twist where nola was actually responsible for her own murder via being a manipulative 'slut child' (partially correct; though i didn't ancipate the really abhorrent and comedically stupid take on DID), and that 3) it would continue to insist that harry and nola being in 'love' gave meaning to his abuse of her (correct). i also assumed he would be revealed to be the killer in the end (doing it for love?) but i was wrong about that. the actual reveal was very boring. rotating through 4 or 5 different 'actually, this person did it!' reveals in the course of like, 3 chapters doesn't make a book exciting! i don't know -- maybe that was meant to be parodic, but it didn't work at all to me.
awful protagonist, awful comedy, awful mystery, offensive in a myriad of ways without ever justifying itself as taking the piss out of those tropes, very long and boring book. at least it's easy to read? lol.

C'est un bon roman avec quelques petites lacunes. Je n'ai malheureusement pas eu trop de difficulté à trouver le coupable de l'histoire. Certaines parties sont un peut tirées par les cheveux et il y a quelques longueurs mais en général, ce roman a bien réussi à m'accrocher. Je le recommanderais aux gens qui n'ont pas trop lu de roman policier car comme je l'ai écrit, l'intrigue n'est pas trop difficile à deviner si on se creuse un peu la tête.

«Un buen libro, Marcus, no se mide sólo por sus últimas palabras, sino por el efecto colectivo de todas las palabras precedentes. Apenas medio segundo después de haber terminado el libro, tras haber leído la última palabra, el lector debe sentirse invadido por un fuerte sentimiento; durante un instante, sólo debe pensar en todo lo que acaba de leer, mirar la portada y sonreír con un gramo de tristeza porque va a echar de menos a todos los personajes. Un buen libro, Marcus, es un libro que uno se arrepiente de terminar».
Es un libro de misterio y como libro de misterio tiene que enganchar y mantenerte pegado a la lectura y lo cumplió. Sentí que a eso del 60% se puso un poco flojo, pero desde el 80% todo fue de una, ya que el autor repartió plot twists como loooooco.
La historia trata de una desaparición que quedó en la nada hace 30 años atrás. En el presente se reabre el caso porque el cuerpo finalmente aparece en la casa del escritor Harry Quebert (34 años), persona que había tenido una relación con la chica desaparecida, Nola de 15 años, y he aquí el gran pero. Al principio los personajes al enterarse quedan en shock y asqueados, pero a medida que la historia avanza la van normalizando y eso va quedando en segundo plano, poco importa que ella haya sido menor de edad ya que "estaban enamorados" y ese aspecto me incomodó harto.
En cuanto a la historia, wow, todo lo que es la investigación me tuvo pegadísima, cada giro, nuevo antecedente era más impactante al anterior. Pero encontré fome y machista cómo el autor retrató a Nola y las cosas que tuvo que hacer ella para mantener a Harry a salvo eran asquerosas. Se lo podría haber ahorrado si es que hubiese contado la historia desde otra perspectiva y no con una relación "amorosa" tan indecente. Al menos tuvo la sensibilidad de no narrar relaciones sexual es entre estos dos personajes.
