When I was in fifth grade or so, this was one of my favourite books. We had it in the class library and I would take it and read it over and over. Rereading it was wonderful and it still holds up. I love this book. It made me cry as a kid and I'm happy to report I cried again.

This has generated some great discussion with my Year 5 reading group about fitting in and the complications of friendships & growing up in general. Most of the group stormed ahead and finished it super fast - a great recommendation in itself. I've just caught up with them. Highly recommended as a springboard for discussion but just as enjoyable looking back from the adult perspective.
