I originally thought it'd approach a transgender character, but what the book actually was about was also good. Another middle-grade book following a boy named "Bradley", who apparently no one likes; apart from Jeff (a new kid) and Carla (a counsellor). I cried a little feeling a bit emotional.
Heart-warming. Teaches us to look at people from different angles.
This was my favorite book when I was a kid. I just finished reading it for the first time in years and it was just as good as I remembered.

audio for the whole family for our spring break driving.
well, maybe not a good book for the whole family (had to explain to the 6 year old that we don't tell everyone you'll "punch them in the face" but it was an interesting book....

I've only ever read Holes by Louis Sachar, and I absolutely loved it, so I was intrigued to read something else by the author. I was a bit disappointed and found this book to be just okay.
One of the main characters in this story is a big bully (supposedly misunderstood) who is feared by his classmates and his teachers for his menacing behavior. A new counselor comes to the school and this boy is encouraged to see her and talk to her, as are some of the other students in the class.
It is interesting to read a book from the point of view of the 'bully' character - it lends an interesting perspective to his experiences and how he interprets the world around him. But, he is genuinely quite an abrasive character, which is why I think I didn't really grow to like him while I was reading this story. It was an interesting premise and an easy enough read, but it felt like it was missing some of the magic that Holes had.

My third grade teacher read it to us. It wasn't really about him in the girls bathroom. But I can't rember what it was about.
This wasn't what I thought it was going to be, I read it on the borrowbox app and it had a very different cover design. It was published in 1997 and is very of it's time which was quite nice in that it reminded me of being middle-grade age, but it has not aged well.
