I was debating between four and five stars because I did ALMOST get bored at times because some of the problems occurring seemed just a little bit redundant and some of the solutions unrealistic, but once I moved past those minor issues, I realized the main reason I wasn't initially going to give it five stars is because I read it in the Fall as opposed to Summer, which is when I typically prefer contemporaries, as I am definitely a big mood reader.

By the end of the book, I was tearing up because of the strong family dynamic and interactions between all of the characters and how several big changes in the family played out. Speaking of characters, I'd like to make it a point that usually with books that have a larger cast than the average book, I find it hard to keep track of everyone and I'd have to go back pages and pages to figure out who's who. However, in Save the Date, I was easily able to follow along due to each character's distinct personality and characteristics.

For a pretty thick novel with a small font, it went by really fast because there was something happening on every single page. I laughed out loud, I teared up, I got annoyed by certain minor characters, I felt fuzzy inside during heart-to-heart moments, etc. There was never a dull moment with the Grant family, and I very much appreciated this story.

I don’t like writing bad reviews so I’ll keep it brief.

In short the characters were the worst part of this book. I’ve never read a more self-centred, privileged, annoying and actively unbearable family in my life. I kept reading in hopes they would have a redemptive arch...plot twist, there was none. They ended as horrible people just as they started.

As a family they disregarded the feelings of anyone who could be seen as an outsider. And yet expected to be praised and held on a pedestal as the perfect Grants.

And the main character was the worst of them all. She was bratty, spoiled, and a bit delusion in thinking that only her family mattered.

Not to mention the plot was extremely boring. It was pages and pages or needless information. There was no need for this book to be so long with no real point or lesson at the end.

I’ve had some really good times with Morgan Matson books but I’m super disappointed in this one. I’d love to round off this review positively by ending with at least one thing I liked, but it’s unfortunate that I can’t.

I really loved the focus on family in this book! It reminded me of my family! I also have a big family, and we love to spend time together, like the Grants!

Meh. It was fine. I like the concept of the story, but the effect felt too forced. There were almost too many characters and it was terribly difficult to keep track of them all. I think it would work better as a movie.

I’m SO SAD that I didn’t love this. It was just a bit too long, had a bit too many characters, and read a bit too much like a movie. Also I just can’t buy a dishy Bill.
But Morgan is still my ride or die and I’ll just reread all of her other books now.
