This book really draw me in. Perfect Victorian gothic novel with some fun time travel sprinkled in.

I was very intrigued by the set-up for this book from A Stitch in Time, but unfortunately I found it a bit disappointing. I think the issue comes down to what I look for in romances, which isn't going to be true for everyone. I always gravitate towards slow burn, and part of that is getting to see a relationship really develop over time. There's really no relationship development here.
SpoilerRosalind and August are separated by forces beyond their control; when Rosalind goes back to the past, her feelings for August are unchanged, and he still loves her. When he doesn't know who Rosalind is, he's a bit cold towards her, and he does soften a bit before he knows the truth, but it's not like he develops serious feelings for her, and as soon as he finds out the truth, they're back together and everything's perfect. I mean, there's some small growth in that he was very jealous/protective of her when they were first married and has to move past that, but otherwise the book is much more about Rosalind finding her way back to August and how he'll react when he finds out and less about the actual development of their relationship, which is just not as interesting to me. And again, that's definitely a personal thing — I'm sure this will be much more appealing to other people, but it wasn't what I was looking for.
I did still find the plot and the characters pretty interesting (the relationship between Rosalind and her son was particularly good), but I was expecting more interest/investment in the romance than I had. And it's not that this was bad, which is why it's still getting 3 stars; it's just that my expectations were much higher. I still love Kelley Armstrong's writing in general, though, and I'm planning on reading the third book when it comes out and have hopes it will work better for me.

I hate separation books or plots of any kind where the main is trying desperately to get home, however I loved Rosalind too much, she is literally perfect. Considerably less romance in this one but also less creepy. Also I cried multiple times.

Ooh, I love that, so far, each book focuses on a different character's story. I cannot wait to see who is featured in A Turn of the Tide and the novellas. Super excited, as well, for the fourth book, A Castle in the Air being released later this year.

A Twist of Fate follows Rosalind after the events of A Stitch in Time. Rosalind finds herself thrust into the 21st century from the 19th. She tries to get back to her husband and son, to no avail. After four years, she finds a way back to her time and her story really gets going. There's romance, ghosts and mystery. I would have enjoyed more during her time in the 21st century, as this is quickly glazed over. However, it is an exciting story once Rosalind becomes her son's governess, undercover. This one didn't strike me like A Stitch in Time did (and the twist didn't hit me like it did in the first), but I'm still eager to continue the series. 3.5

Y’all, this was really NOT good. It wasn’t spooky at all and the story was incredibly rushed toward the end. I mean, I usually enjoy this author but yikes on this one.
