This is a summary of a bunch of examples of behavioral addiction and experiments to prove how psychologically masochistic humanity is. It tells us how technology is created to make us hooked and even how it is done. It does not give ways to help those addicted.
I would have and should have dropped this book after the first few chapters but I thought I might be able to find a few useful ideas in here besides don’t put your phone next to your bed when you sleep.
Honestly if I wasn’t addicted to finishing books that I have started then I would have moved on from this after chapter one.

if you don't want to watch the social dilemna, just read this book
Very interesting book that illuminates the dark side of technology. As I listened, I thought about how I use technology and some ways I should change my approach. Although I initially borrowed this audiobook from Scribd, I've since purchased it so I can listen again. Highly recommended.
An important book which explores addictive nature of smartphones because the manufacturers and engineers behind them, behind every app aim to make them increasingly more addictive for the sake of profit. The author provides copious details and references from various sources about various addictive behaviours and the different ways to treat them. It's an approachable and engaging book which prompts further reading.
Somewhat interesting. I really didn't like the writing style, which felt like reading a disjointed high school English paper.

This book dealt with how people are dealing with technology addictions, what some of those addictions are, and why they are happening. He does touch on how companies are using addictive behaviours to hook people on their products.
He did a good job of covering many sides of the story including material from the very beginning of gaming. It was an insightful read.

Surprisingly great read! At first, I originally thought that this book would primarily be censored on arguments of social media; however, the book primarily centered on arguments regarding behavioral flaws fueling addictive tendencies. Prior to reading this book, I was knowledgeable about substance misuse and addiction, and I loved how this book tied many of principles found with substance addiction to technological addictions. Alter does a great job at reframing current perspective regarding addictive tendencies, and his attempt to humanize the perspective of technological addiction by placing it within the larger context of behavioral addiction is the first step needed in de-stigmatizing addictions overall.
