Not a genre I typically go for so most of this wasn't really my cup of tea but the writing was clear & easy and Richardson clearly shines when it comes to character development.

I am not the right audience for this story. I am just so tired of the BIPOC-character-fighting-the-system narrative. It’s not that it’s overused, it’s just that this is true life. And it’s exhausting in real life. And I’m too tired to fight on paper too. Perhaps some people will find it illuminating and will teach them about systemic racism and slavery. But this wasn’t that for me.
