Disappointed. Jenny Colgan is part of my love for small European towns & quirky characters. A new series, sure why not? I’m not sure that I will read the other books. I did not feel connected to any of the characters. Part of it being that the story jumped between too many characters. I also took issue with the way she described the public school and students of Maggie’s previous school. I kept thinking it would get better but it did not. The ending was anticlimactic but then I remembered this is part of a series, but still give us a reason to keep reading.

I believe every book I have read that takes place at a boarding school has been a thriller so this was a nice change in pace. Chapters that alternate between characters is always fascinating to me, and this was no exception. I loved getting the perspective of the student and then the teacher. My favorite character was new teacher Maggie. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is the story of a all girls boarding school in Cornwall by the sea and was a fairly typical Jenny Colgan book to me. Jenny wrote these books a while ago under a different pen name and is now re-releasing them. This is the first book in the series and the book is more about introduction of the school and all the characters with very little of a plot. I didn’t hate this book but I also didn’t love it. I found it a little boring and slow and none of the characters really stood out to me. I will give this an average rating of 3.5/5. I will most likely read the second book sometime to see if it gets any more engaging as I usually enjoy books by this author.

I should have DNF'd. And I should have looked at the reviews first. I didn't realize that this was a reissue of an older book. I found so much to be problematic, especially with Simone.

I LOVE JENNY COLGAN BUT....
It's always a great day when a new Jenny Colgan book drops or when I can find an older one. But with this one.....whew, it was a total Debbie Downer. Her prelude to the book led me to believe we were on a start to a new wonderful series but I was so disappointed.
There wasn't one likable character in this book and shouldn't there be at least, one?
I've never put down a Jenny Colgan book. Ever.
I came close with this one halfway through but I kept hoping it would give up a shimmer of light. And it just didn't.
Her books always have a good sense of humor to them or a wonderful environment but this just did not. I wish she had carved out more description of the school and maybe I could have put myself in the story but it seemed to have just been left behind.

The writing is still Jenny Colgan good but it just was missing some of her warmth and color.

I'm not telling anyone not to read it and I'm not telling anyone to read it. If anything, it left me so confused about what she will write about the next couple of books.

Worst Jenny Colgan ever. I'm usually a stan for her sweet books but this should never have been released under her real name. Total cringe and mean. Dnf
