A group of friends get together for a dinner and one of them ends up assaulted. The rest is a story of secrets, lies, and accusations. This story twists and turns and leaves you guessing. Definitely a good read.

A group of college friends get together for a reunion. Past secrets are looming and new drama unfolds. Which friends are telling the truth and which friends are hiding secrets?!?

It kept me hooked from the beginning. Highly recommend it..

This had me gripped right from the start (and that’s saying something as I listened to this via the Alexa app’s dulcet tones!) I have to say that I did relate to this group of friends as they’re pretty much me, my age group and one of the settings is Oxford, which brought back memories of when I worked there.

I must admit this is not an easy read as you’re thrown into the brutality of sexual assault/rape right from the start. But McGowan is able to bring lots of viewpoints to this situation as it covers the impact and trauma on all those involved. And it’s a real dilemma for main character Ali as her loyalty is torn between her best friend and her husband - talk about a dilemma.

I loved how more and more secrets were revealed as time goes on (one of the biggies I’ll admit I guessed), but the biggest came out of nowhere. This definitely won’t be the last McGowan book I read!

⚠️Trigger warnings and potential spoilers: in addition to the main topic of sexual assault/rape, this also deals with attempted murder and references to (but not detailed domestic abuse and it’s affect, coercive behaviour. ⚠️

I've learned not to expect much from Amazon First Reads, so I wasn't surprised by the mediocrity of this book. It was difficult to care about any of the characters. It was also clear that the author has no idea how to manage point of view. At least the ending wasn't totally predictable. 3 stars it is.

The ending and the prologue was fantastic! Didn't see it coming.

it's very exhausting to read, I almost didn't finish if it wasn't for the length of the book.
the story has potential, but the execution was not very good in my opinion.
The main character keep repeating herself every chapter. I was so fed up with her. She is just too whiney. trying to be tough but fail kind of type.
she said her childhood was rough, but there werent much she mentioned. it would change anything if the author jist left that part out.
the development of her character is very weak.
Storytelling is awful. too jumpy. kinda annoying.
I struggled the whole book
didn't enjoy it.

It’s ok

The pace of the book is very slow, but the story is very interesting. It keeps you guessing until the very end.
