This book is full of internal conflict, it’s narrative surrounding rape is thought-provoking and challenging. That paired with a cold-case from the character’s days in college was interesting but I did feel it was dragged out a bit. The characters are not particularly likeable and in some cases slightly unbelievable, particularly Karen who was portrayed as a slightly pathetic and a ‘poor me’ type character which I found frustrating. However, it is very readable and the ending unpredictable.
I came across this book recommended to me by Amazon Prime, I’ve read quite a few mixed reviews on here but I’ve got to say I really did enjoy this book!
I thought the book was written really quite well, this is the first book I’ve read from Claire McGowan and I shall be seeking more ☺️
I felt myself wanting to read chapter after chapter and struggled to put the book down! I definitely did not expect the ending!! Mike isn’t as bad as they originally made him out to be…

3.5 stars. Loved that by the end, all of the characters were unlikeable.
A group of college friends get together for a reunion. Past secrets are looming and new drama unfolds. Which friends are telling the truth and which friends are hiding secrets?!?
It kept me hooked from the beginning. Highly recommend it..

I liked the premise of the book: a group of college friends reunite after twenty years, one of the women is raped and says the protagonist’s husband is her attacker. The story jumps back and forth dealing with the aftermath of “the night” along with details about their relationships while they were in school. I wanted to love it, but I thought the ending was pretty obvious and the last half of the book dragged as things were explained.
The protagonist was very unlikeable to me, from the beginning. As a mom and wife, I understand being anxious about how your home looks, how your children behave and interact with you, and even how you are perceived by others. I even understand internally comparing yourself to others in a similar position as you, since that is how we as a society have been programmed. But her naturally condescending and judgmental thinking, which she does her best not to vocalize until further in the story, really rubs me the wrong way.
The saving grace for me was the author’s ability to add new clues every few chapters that made you question different characters for different reasons, inevitably clouding the truth until you read it.

I just found everyone in this book so exceptionally unlikable. Every character is a terrible person. There was no one to root for. The "main character" was especially annoying. The plot had promise, but it was poorly executed.
So many twists
Great story. So many twists that show what lengths someone is willing to go to . The truth as one knows it isn’t necessarily the real truth.
