The little bit at the end made it so much darker wow!! That was my favorite part. Otherwise the book was decent. I read through it super fast. Nothing else really mind blowing but it was a solid read, I enjoyed it overall. Kind of hated most of the characters though, and the juxtaposition of ‘feminist’ characters acting the way they did. I don’t love that as social commentary

So, you’re a high profile advocate for victims of domestic abuse and chair of a charity that helps women find refuge. Now, your having a reunion with your friends from Oxford after 25 years and suddenly your best friend is accusing your husband of raping her. What do you do?
Refusing to believe these claims goes against everything you stand for as well as what you have publicly shamed others for. But, at the end of the day he’s your husband, the one person you should be able to wholeheartedly trust, he would never do this. Would he?

I got through this book fairly quickly. I found the plot interesting and it kept me engaged, despite the writing which I found questionable at times. Seems like the author really has a problem with pregnant women! The ending was a little bizarre and took away from the rest of the story, which seemed more realistic.

Mixed feelings about this book. It started intriguing, then became more dull as the pages turned. The characters seemed somewhat annoying and I struggled to connect with them at all. As the book went on the story enticed me more and more, I was completely on board to "solve the case" by the final few chapters. The ending was definitely a surprise to me, tying up loose ends well. I imagine to anyone who reads a lot of this genre the ending is predictable. Overall, 4/5. Even though I had to push on to continue reading, I enjoyed it for the most part.

Maybe I’ve read too many books that are like this but as I was reading I felt like it ticked off the boxes of books people like to read: Friends get together 20 years after college graduation - check; people drink too much and behave badly - check. Teens and parents unable to talk about important things - check. A violent crime is committed - but who really did it - check. A past crime may have links to the current crime - check. Someone is in a coma and they have information that is desperately needed - check. The group (especially the women) all are a little desperate and the men are all insecure. Should Ali believe Karen her best friend - who accuses Ali’s husband Mike of rape - or should Ali believe her husband who says he didn’t rape Karen. And didn’t she her daughter outside that night when she was supposed to be in her room sleeping? Jodi and Cal are expecting a baby after all these years - but Jodi had gone to bed and Cal was passed out in the living room. And Bill says he didn’t see anything but he is sticking around t help out and even though he’s unattached right now - didn’t he and Ali used to have an attraction. I’ll admit that the end is nicely creepy - and I wished that the rest of the book had more of that. But perhaps in McGowans next book.
