It was okay. There was a considerable amount of repetition to tie certain stories or examples to different sections of the book, a few times I thought I'd picked it up in the wrong place. It also read as an advert for Broadmoor, but did give insight to parts I didn't know about such as the staff and the wards.

This was very interesting to learn about what Broadmoor actually is and what happens there. I knew a bit about some of the criminals who have been there, but it was interesting to learn about them being criminally insane and what kinds of treatments they received while they were there.

What a strange book. It raises more questions than it answers. I’d like to read more about Broadmoor, and this has certainly raised a lot of questions in my mind. It’s not well written, sadly, and would have benefited from a really thorough copy edit. At times I felt it was over sensationalised and even tawdry. It felt like the author enjoyed reporting salacious gossip. I wish I hadn’t read this book, it was all a bit of a waste of time.

This book is so interesting, it shows accounts of patients inside Broadmoor but also shows us what the real Broadmoor is not the one that to media want us to believe. There are parts of the book I found difficult to read but that isn’t so surprising given the nature of the book and the patients who live at Broadmoor. 4 stars ⭐️

3.5 if i’m being nice. kinda written like it hasn’t been proofread and some sentences didn’t make sense to me, but interesting from a crim / psych pov.

i also didn’t know that jimmy savile visited peter sutcliffe in jail??? very scary

I don’t know why this didn’t work for me….

I just didn’t enjoy it, it felt flat and boring.

I’m shocked to see that this book has so many negative reviews. I understand the comment of repetitiveness but other than that, I found it a well-researched & interesting read which tried to avoid the glamourised media perception of mental health & Broadmoor. The stories are intriguing but also told sensitively. The researchers & authors did a brilliant job of including lots of different perspectives.
