Victorious is #6 in the Lost Fleet Series. Per Wikipedia, "Victorious is the sixth and final volume in Hemry's The Lost Fleet series, though not the last book featuring Captain John "Black Jack" Geary. They've made it back to Alliance space. Yippee! Sorry if that's a spoiler. Geary, with the blessing of the Alliance Senate is back off to finish the Syndic War with new new refitted fleet. More books to follow. I'm hooked.

I read these for the strategic planning & tactical executions of the fights. And even that only get 3 stars. This was more about John & Tanya than anything else.

Look, the title of the book tells you what happens. There are really no surprises here. It's a nice wrap-up of the series, but this book lacks so many dramatic military engagements that were in the other books. (If those were your favorite parts, you might not like this book.)
The series gets more or less wrapped up, Black Jack saves the day, and after it all, there is a completely ridiculous scene straight out of a rom-com. It seemed a little out of character for the gruff military SF feeling, but I will admit I found adorable. (I admit, I occasionally like that sort of thing. And happy endings for deserving characters? And actually *ending* a series instead of drawing sh*t out forever (*cough*[a:Robert Jordan|6252|Robert Jordan|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1175475715p2/6252.jpg]*cough*) is lovely to see.)

This is the final book in the initial The Lost Fleet series. Lots of spoilers for the entire series within, so read at your own risk!
• As expected from the end of the previous book, Geary is given permission to go back to the Syndicate home world and finish the war once and for all. He's even given the rank of Fleet Admiral, much to his chagrin. It's agreed this will only be temporary and then he'll revert back to his permanent captain rank.
• Also as expected, lots of Syndic ass-kicking and a win for the Alliance. There were a few tense moments, since the Syndics intended to destroy the hypernet gate and take out the entire system (along with the Alliance fleet)... but luckily our intrepid lead character(s) figured out the trap and came up with an excellent plan to hide behind the system's star to ride out the wave of destruction if necessary.
• So we finally get to meet the aliens! Still don't know too much about them, so I can speculate that they might be an AI race, or their ships might be entirely AI controlled instead of manned by flesh and blood (their willingness to overload the cores on ALL of their damaged ships and no escape pods makes me think even more so this might be the case).
• Haha, Geary and Desjani don't waste any time do they. :) Glad for a happy ending for them for the time being.
Enjoyed this series, but I'll likely take a break before trying out the subsequent ones.
