The story didn't make that much sense. I was so confused when the book ended and I asked myself what I just read. 3 stars for the superb artwork.

High-stakes cooking in a vibrant fictional fantasy land. Loved it!

Kind of a weird story. Definitely don't know enough about what's going on to really judge it yet. Hopefully more will be revealed in the next collection. Right now I'm kind of confused and hope that it'll get better.

An imaginative dystopian tale with dashes of action, warmth, and humor. Only disappointment was that even with six collected issues, this volume is almost entirely table-setting, and readers are more likely to want to continue if they've been drawn in with more plot movement before the cliffhanger. As it is, it asks a little too much unearned faith that the story will pay off if one keeps with it, though it does seem poised for eventual reward. Would recommend, but more easily if next volume is readily at hand for interested reader.

Flavor introduces us to an interesting world in which cooking is a legally regulated industry that brings status and opportunity to those formally licensed as chefs. A teenaged (?) girl with her anthropomorphic (read: "'awesome") dog Buster are doing what they can to make ends meet and support her disabled parents. Meanwhile some sort of sinister magic is brewing beneath the surface of her City, a jam-packed metropolis cut off from the outside world by towering walls.

I have more questions than I do answers, especially about this world and it's social and political dynamics. But by the time Volume 1 ended (on a cliffhanger, naturally), I was hooked enough to be disappointed that my library doesn't seem to have volume 2. On the plus side, it seems to be available on Kindle Unlimited...

Iโ€™m a huge fan of the BA test kitchen so I thought this would be perfect and it was a nice story BUT it ended on a cliffhanger and I donโ€™t really understand why because before I bought this book I saw there are only six issues available and they are in this volume so where is the rest if you want to end this in the middle of a plot?
