The plot twist was a such big hit for me! My maternal feelings are touched and disturbed by many parts in the book especially with child abuse, mentally, emotionally and physically.

The story started with a scene of fire. A child is the sole surviver, leaving behind her grandparents who died in the house, but the cause of death is not the fire itself. The investigation of the fire incident began at the same time with the murder investigation of many women that happened within the same town.

It is simply gripping and eerie. This is the kind of book you would like to read at night with rain pouring down outside.

I joined #bookstagram just in time for #mansemarch , #koreadathon , & #koreanmarch ! Over the last few years I've been reading a decent amount of Korean American authors - mostly memoirs and historical fiction to learn more about my culture and history.

"The Only Child" is my first translated book (by Jung Yewon) I've read and it did not disappoint! Typically, I find narration by multiple characters difficult to follow, but the character development Mi-ae Seo created was so phenomenal that it wasn't an issue.

The central question throughout the book is: What makes serial killers who they are? Though I predicted most of the twists and turns, I still found it dark and tense. For me, the only thing keeping this from a perfect five stars was the lack of character relationships throughout.

I was really excited when I read the review for this book! It takes place in Seoul, South Korea. So I was over here giddy with glee cause you know that’s where I was born
