For some reason I could not get into this book. I tried and I do think it might have been the mood that I was in but I had to put it down. I might come back to it at one point but right now it is a pass.

This was a fantastic book. Not exactly my usual, but I've always said that I can read any genre as long as the writing is good, and Adrienne Young is an extremely talented writer. She has crafted a tale full of believably flawed characters, dealing with each other while unraveling a mystery that has haunted them for 14 years. Add to that a small touch of magical realism, and the finished story is one that will stay with me for quite a while.

the mystery was enticing as long as I forgot the reason for the drama was an apple orchard lol

well… that was forgettable.

i think i’ve read too many in this genre to actually connect/be surprised anymore. maybe i’m nitpicking but i read another comment that went like “all this for a bunch of apples?” and i must say, i have to agree. the climax was so rushed and it didn’t even feel satisfying.

that said, i enjoyed the writing style and i did think august salt was rather swoon worthy.

Blahhhh how do you make a witchy murder mystery set in a magical island boring? Such a waste of time.
