slow-paced

Enemies to lovers romance about two sparring writers - Rosie, a romance writer, and Aiden, a serious lit fic writer who doesn’t believe in HAE.

The two need to write a novel together  for their final project, so there is a book within a book. However, because their novel is a thinly veiled story of their relationship, it ends up making the book feel unnecessarily long.

I liked the new perspective (Rosie is mixed Peruvian American from Tennessee) and the NYC backdrop (why is the line for Wafels & Dinges so long??).

Other tropes: fake relationship, fish out of water

Sourced: bookish library list

Debut!? Bravo. Bowing down. Is there a Peruvian word for this level of admiration? Because Katie Holt deserves it.

This book is exactly why I love reading romance. I love books. I love romance. I love a grumpy/sunshine trope—and this is a grumpy sunshine romance about books. Perfection.

I asked for a book rec with kick-your-feet banter, and what did I get? An enemies-to-lovers story with banter and tension so good I had to physically hide my face in the pages. Rosalinda and Aiden’s dialogue jumped right off the page, sparking chemistry that made me grin like an idiot.

You’ll really be getting two romance stories in one because Rosie Posie (that name is not as gag inducing in the book, I promise) and Aiden are writing a book about Maxine and Hunter. Are they writing about themselves? 😏

Katie Holt seamlessly wove in flashbacks to deepen the story, all while building the slowest of slow burns. And just when you think you can’t take the tension anymore, she teases us with Rosalinda and Aiden co-writing a spicy scene. Torture. Delicious, brilliant torture.

Romance readers—add this debut to your TBR immediately. ⚠️ There is a trope that I am not a fan of (*clears throat* in the third act) but my annoyance was snuffed out with the HEA.

Why would they blurb it as similar to book lovers when the central conflict is identical to beach read is my question

This actually made me cry and feel so many things! I didn’t expect for it to happen at first, but this was truly such a special and beautiful roamnce book. The way the rivals to lovers played out was chef’s kiss, and the flow of the story mixed with excerpts from the book they were writing together worked so well. If you like Nora Ephron romcoms, Emily Henry books, and Taylor Swift you’ll LOVE this book!!
slow-paced

So, it’s not that the writing is bad or anything, but this book pissed me off. The FMC was annoying and her thought process about their relationship made 0 sense to me. A lot of their issues and character development didn’t really make sense. The MMC was a huge dick in the third act break up—to such extent that I was doubting he could bounce back in my eyes—and I was right. Weak apology. It just didn’t do it for me. Decent spice, though.
