This is a good 'quick' read after having read a couple more serious books. I felt like several details were repeated too many times throughout the books and some of the items were not researched out well enough and hence were simply not realistic. With that being said, none of these items were devastating to the story line.

Kate Connolly is trying to learn all the tricks of the trade of being a private investigator, while taking care of her four month old baby, Laurie. She has a supportive husband and a kind retired cop as a mentor to learn to become a PI. Her latest case is becoming frustrating, especially when a rival PI is trying to solve the case before she can.

This is a fun, quick read with several humorous moments throughout the book. Kate comes across as believable, even when some of the situations seem a little far-fetched. Kate’s to-do lists at the beginning of the chapters are also funny. I guessed the murderer before Kate did, but I was entertained throughout the book and hope this series continues. I have enjoyed seeing Kate grow as a private investigator, as well as seeing her everyday life as a wife and new mother. She still has a lot to learn about both, but that adds to the humor.

I’ve read the prior books in this series, but new readers would be able to catch on to who’s who very quickly and enjoy the fun of this book. Readers who enjoy Ayelet Waldman’s “Mommy Track” series or Sara Rosett’s “Ellie Avery Mysteries” will enjoy this light-hearted mystery about Kate Connolly learning the PI trade while also adjusting to motherhood.

Started this one last night and so far it might be okay, but there are a few too many little details about babies tucked into the narrative that just aren't necessary to the story. I can't see that anyone would care about what part of a car seat detaches from the base, or whatever the term was. Seriously? No one cares and it has nothing to do with the story. You don't need to add all the baby-world details to make an interesting "new mother" detective story.

The mystery is kind of shallow. This is a very quick read that seems like more than a short story.

A fun cosy mystery. Lots of funny "new mum" moments I could relate to.
