This book was highly entertaining and engaging. I'm a big fan of unusual premises and magical realism, and this hit all the right spots for me.

For me to give a book a 5, it needs to make me cry and have an intense emotional reaction. This one did not, but it was thoroughly entertaining and I would definitely recommend it!

I absolutely devoured Aftertaste. Lavelle’s writing makes every flavor come alive and every ache of loss hit home. Her idea of summoning ghosts through taste felt magical and deeply moving as I followed Kostya through ambition, heartbreak, and a genuinely sweet romance with Maura. Their playful banter, and the way the story shifts between the whirlwind of a top-tier kitchen and the quiet moments of grief kept me reading late into the night. If you’re into stories that blend food, fantasy, and a good ghostly twist, this one’s for you.

This was unique. I saw it as a recommendation on booksta.

Kostya can sense the dead through mouthwatering aftertastes. When he decides to act and make what he tastes, he gets the shock of a lifetime.

Lots of deep life thoughts and events are covered throughout the story.

I wasn’t sure I would be able to enjoy this idea but I was hooked from the word go. Lavelle does a fantastic job immersing the reader in their fictional world.

How do you make lemonade out of f**ks?
