Just the most cliche, didn’t enjoy it at all

I really liked this book, but I listened to the audiobook and it was hard for me to follow because of that. I’ll have to get physical copies for the rest of the series!

Booktok recommended. Enjoyed the audiobook because it has multiple narrators.

Things I liked:
  1. Different humanoid species with interesting language, looks, and cultural differences
  2. The mystery surrounding Aurora (the girl)
  3. Audiobook narration
  4. Finn’s cousin

Things I didn’t like:
  1. Adults don’t disclose things to teens that could be very helpful
  2. The plot was predictable in many ways
  3. Some parts were slow and I wasn’t always ready to jump back into the story

Dear god I will never understand how these two writers do what they do. Aurora Rising was intricately woven, beautiful, and absolutely devastating. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

3.5 stars. This book hooked me at the beginning, but about half way through, it started to drag. I liked the plot but felt disconnected to the some characters (some I loved!) and disliked some of the tropes/cliches. But, I was entertained, and I will probably read the sequel. I hear Illuminae is much better and do hope to read that!
