I'm glad I knew that this book was only about half the characters before I read it, otherwise I would have been a lot more frustrated.

The books is definitely a come down for everything after the 3rd book storm of swords. A lot of the book is what the title suggests a feast for crows you have outlaws and bandits feasting on defeated people from the wars as well as other examples of the crows feasting. The book is a slow burn to what’s to come in other books. I’d probably say most of the pov chapters I really enjoyed say Arya’s bravos chapters (I’m just not a huge fan of where her story arc goes) but the best are definitely Cersei’s, Jamie’s, and Brianne’s chapters. You’ve got all the scheming and political stuff in kings landing with Cersei including her downfall, you’ve got Jamie who’s really struggling with his identity and self worth as a kings guard and Lannister I’’m also really enjoying his redemption arc, then you have Breinne just kicking ass in the river lands and your getting to see just how bad things are there. If you’re a big fan of the series it’s still worth reading this book for sure but it’s a slower pace and you’re gonna be missing characters like Tyrion, Jon, and Daenerys.

Easily the weakest book of the series so far, still pretty damn good one.
Not having any chapters based on Tyrion, Jon and Danny was disappointing, but this book does try to put more light on other characters/region such as Brienne, Sam, Jaime and Dorne, which I enjoyed.
The slow downfall of Cersie and Arya's struggle with her identity was fun to witness.
I didn't really enjoy the Greyjoy power struggle storyline and Sansa's chapters were boring too. Won't shelve this one to my favourites.

If the first 80% were as good as the last 20% this would have been another five star read. Unfortunately, this was not the case so three stars it is and only because the last 20% was so good. Someone needs to tell Martin that there are some stories that don't need to be told, or at least don't need to be told in detail.

Read concurrently with book 5, A Dance With Dragons using the Boiled Leather reading order. Would highly recommend reading books 4 and 5 of the series together as this is how the author had originally intended to deliver the story.
