I read Haunting Adeline first because I didn’t know this book existed. With that being said, this was a short backstory for a character I actually grew to love in the duet. The first chunk of this is torture porn, pretty literally. I skimmed through the gore and most of everything except Sibby’s backstory and the very end. I’m not sure if reading this before the duet would be better or worse, but I am glad to at least have some insight into her character.

This was my first dark romance novel…when I say dark I mean DARK. The trigger warning almost scared me away. There where a few moments where I was questioning what I was reading but once I got over the initial “weird” stuff (stuff that I wasn’t used to) I was hooked. Definitely a good story. That plot twist at the end 🤯 I was not expecting it AT ALL!

I loved Sibby and I’m excited to read Haunting Adeline as she also comes up in that story…

Sibby is a far more interesting character than the ones in Haunting Adeline.
Her story was entertaining to read and you find yourself feeling sympathy for her as the plot line develops.

I can see why the author wanted to everyone read this book before the 2 books from Zade and Adeline, but is not necessarily mandatory, for me, it was like an off side story on why Sibby is the way that she is. Even tho the “plot twist” of her henchman being not real was already ruined for me.

I would have love a more detail book on her perspective and leave Zade and Adeline as second characters in her story, because her spicy scenes with her Henchmen were amazing, she surly has a VERY vivid imagination.

I would have love for the author to continue until Zade brought her to Adeline’s house to live, I wanted to see how he found her after she got out of the mental institution, but I know It would have spoiled a lot of the plot from the actual book of Hunting Adeline.

Overall, this book I would probably recommend to someone who likes a short and quick read over a psycho girl.

i probably would have enjoyed this a lot more if i read it before the duet but i already knew the plot twist the whole time so it felt quite repetitive and slow paced despite the length. it was written well though and gave a lot more insight into sibby's past. this is definitely pretty gory and i think it warrants checking the TWs before reading this but it's not necessary to read to enjoy the cat and mouse duet imo. this worked for me because sibby was a girl and the "cleansings" were usually done on men (and not on any woman on page unless i'm mistaken) but if that was switched i would probably find this a lot more uncomfortable.
