I really enjoyed a few of the stories in this collection, but the others did not speak to me or I was left sort of confused as to what they were meant to make me feel. There were a couple stories designated to recapping episodes of Law and Order SVU, but with an added factionalized element. I found these very repetitive and a bit boring after a while, and it kind of lost me. I did enjoy that the majority of the stories had queer main characters, which I always appreciate. The couple stories I did like, I REALLY liked and were super impactful to me, so maybe if I read it again the other stories might sink in more. Overall this is a great collection of stories, and even if you don’t resonate with all of them, there will be at least one that sits with you. This book really got me thinking about how as women, our whole lives revolve around our bodies and how much time and money we spend trying to “fix” them, without success and never feeling happy with the results.

so so so good !! each story in this collection is fresh and thought provoking and machado’s writing style varies from perverse and humourous to heart-wrenching and deeply political. deeply enjoyed each of these stories and the way machado gave life to each of the protagonists and their individual struggles with sex, love and femalehood. ‘especially heinous’ is my favourite for its unique storytelling - helps a bit that i’m a big svu fan !! i feel there’s so much in this collection to enjoy and i really admire the taboo subjects machado covered here

If you liked the writing of this book honestly read Anna Dorn’s novels because they felt similar in writing styles.
