Enjoyed the style of switching between characters and the dates for each chapter - felt like a part of the fam. Very heartwarming!

Not sure why I am fascinated by WW2 books. But this is one of my favorites. Based on an actual family from Poland. 2 Parents, 5 children and their significant others and one grandchild are alive and living well when the war begins. The horrors and atrocities that happen to each and every one of them are more than any one family should ever have to survive or ever have to bear. The story is beautifully written. You feel like you know each and every character.
Just an amazing story.
There were 30,000 Jews from the city in Poland where this family lived when the war began. Only 300 survived.
Highly recommend!

Wow! Historical fiction is my favorite genre, and for some reason, I really enjoy reading stories of the Holocaust. The weaving tales in this book exemplified the nature of the human spirit to survive despite horrific conditions. Highly recommended!

Historical fiction is not usually my jam but this was on my TBR for awhile and I saw that it was made into a Hulu series so I picked it for book club. It was definitely slow at times and there were a lot of characters to keep track of which made it in between 3-4 stars for me. I didn't realize it was based on a true story until I saw the description on Hulu and then read the author's note at the end of the book.
