Non stop thriller action! Serena approach’s her old friend Tansy, to help her daughter. Tansy and Serena have not spoken in years and Tansy does not really trust Serena. What sounds like a simple request from a caring mother turns into much more.
This story is told from Tansy’s POV and has several main characters. You quickly find out who is good and bad but learn the why as the story goes on. There is a lot going on in this book but it’s not hard to keep up. I loved the suspense and not knowing what was going to happen.

Why isn’t this book being talked about more?
It’s a good solid suspense book.
Trigger warnings though:
SA and DV, oh and murder

The Summer We Buried by Jody Gehrman is a story about friendship. Especially when those friendships are toxic and one-sided..
Main character Tansy once again lets herself get dragged into Selena's drama and once she is in, she can't see a way out. Secrets from her past are threatening to be exposed and her life feels like it is falling apart.
I enjoyed this book, especially the depiction of the friendship between Tansy and Selena. I think many people have found themselves in toxic friendships or relationships they can't find a way out of (not to this extent though!).
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.

To start off the review I have to say I enjoyed this book. It was well written, and it didn't avoid talking about some heavy subjects, even tho i think those heavy topics could've been pushed further at times.
This book is a slow paced thriller/mystery book, and that type of book doesn't do a lot of me.
There wasn't much thinking or guessing what happens next.
Most of the reveals I personally found predictable, so they didn't come as a shock when they happened.
Some of the characters fell flat for me, and i think Selene and Tansey were the most fleshed out characters of the book, while characters like Zach and Jupiter were one dimensional in my opinion.
Other than the thriller/mystery aspect of the book there is also the romance part that i didn't love. It used the insta love trope to set up the romance and i find that to take away from what could've been a good romance. Romance wise I'm glad it took only a small portion of the book, and the rest didn't involve it.
The ending was okay, but it wasn't anything to unexpected.
Also topics of mental illness are mentioned in the book, especially BPD but in my opinion it was very surface level and based on the basic symptoms of that disorder, and i felt that if the author was already mentioning it they could've at least put a bit more substance in that conversation.
Overall, even with the issues i have with this book, reading it i have to say i had fun and i wanted to see what will happen by the end.
Trigger Warnings included in this book are topics of mental illness, sexual assault, abusive relationships.

A quick enjoyable 3.5 star read for me.
Tansy isn’t exactly thrilled when her old friend Selene arrives back into her life after 20 years. Tansy cut ties with Selene for a reason, and she doesn’t need the demons from her past to resurface now.
Selene believes her daughter Jupiter is caught up in a toxic relationship that she can’t escape from. Given that Tansy is a counsellor at the college her daughter attends, Selene feels Tansy is in the perfect position to help. Only problem is that Tansy doesn’t trust Selene and doesn’t want to let her back into her life.
The premise of the story is pretty good, and it definitely kept me intrigued but as a slow burn throughout it just took a little too long for anything to really get going for me until the last quarter of the book.
I really enjoyed the backstory of the characters as the truth of their friendship twenty years earlier started to unfold. Selene a strong, confident take to crap character, while Tansy who is ten younger was much more naïve and innocent when the unlikely pair became inseparable.
Domestic violence and violence against women is a strong theme throughout and I just got a little frustrated with Tansy’s lack of want to really do anything to help Jupiter out of her current situation, instead repeating the mantra that she needs to learn herself that the relationship isn’t right for her. I just found that a little irritating given that victims of abuse often struggle to leave of their own accord.
That’s just my opinion, maybe from a counsellor’s perspective her reaction was justified.
Overall, an interesting mystery read that I did enjoy.

Read Completed 6/22/22 | I had no idea what to expect going into this book but I've read one other Jody Gehrman book and enjoyed it (THE GIRLS WEEKEND). Looking back, this book had a similar tone and even a similar kind of story with the whole "frenemies" concept, but I didn't find THE SUMMER WE BURIED to be as thrilling. We spend a lot of time getting to know the characters and it almost felt more drama than thriller. There were a few twisty things and the writing style definitely got me hooked, but ultimately the ending fell just a bit flat for my tastes. It wasn't quite a speedy pace which doesn't always bother me for a thriller/suspense novel, but this just never really seemed to push into a place where I felt tense, nervous, and anxious about what might happen.
