This book is mainly a family drama with a dash of romance and a murder mixed in. I really liked the narrator, Emily Ellet, and think she did a great job narrating the story. I did have mixed feelings about the ending of the book and believe that most people will either love it or hate it. I recommend reading if you enjoy reading family dramas like Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book and I loved how small but connected the cast was. This is really a story about connections - friendships, familial, professional, and romantic - and it was interesting to see how all of those connections can really work their way into someone's life.
Choosing to set the story 20 years after the breakup gave both characters enough time to move on and find new things to do with their lives. I think this meant that the characters we get are much more well-rounded and less prone to drama and makes them more compelling to follow, in my opinion.
I really loved the pacing of the book and how snappy it was despite not a whole lot, plot-wise, happening until the ending. We are following Tansy's POV though the book and in the beginning she's pretty unsure about getting involved. However, Gehrman does a fantastic job of dropping in new characters or plot information at just the right time that Tansy really has no choice but to keep going.
My one gripe about the story is that it wasn't a suspenseful/thrilling as I think it is being marketed as. The description gives away the event in Tansy and Selene's past that Selene keeps basically blackmailing Tansy about but we get the full story pretty early on in the book and it didn't read as intense as I was expecting. I was expecting something much more "I know what you did last summer" vibes. I don't think the crime nor the stakes were built up enough to explain Selene coming to collect on a debt twenty years later.
I think the ending will be hit or miss for readers but I really enjoyed it. I do feel like it was the strongest and most interesting part of the story because of all the groundwork that was done previously. I think the ending could have been even stronger if some of my issues with the tension I mentioned previously were done differently.
Overall, I enjoyed the read although it felt much more like a general fiction book than a suspense/thriller. I loved the characters and complicated relationships but found the tension really lacking.

The premise to this novel sounds good and I requested it based on my love for the authors novel prior to this one. Unfortunately, I didn't love this one quite as much. It was a solid novel that kept me interested and invested in the families story, even though the family was not totally normal. All the relationships in this novel were complicated, but nonetheless, I enjoyed the novel.

In one sentence: Tansy and Selene were best friends with a big secret, and twenty years later, Selene comes to ask for a favor related to her daughter Jupiter.
I love stories about female friendship and dual timeline thrillers, and this was such a fun read. I read it in one sitting curled up under a blanket on a cold night, and I recommend that you do the same!
Tansy is an interesting protagonist - as is common in psychological thrillers, she makes some poor choices that get her in trouble. When she says yes to Selene and starts to meet with Jupiter, you just know that this story is not going to have a happy ending. I enjoyed the tension that Gehrman built up in the story. The second half ramped up the action and also added some new secrets to build to an explosive conclusion. I guessed part of the ending, but there were enough surprises to keep me happy.
If you want a quick read thriller, I'd recommend this one!

This book is more of a slow burn thriller, but it was needed to tell the backstory of the main characters and it picked up pace during the second half. The main 2 characters, Tansy and Selene, were best friends 20 years ago. A traumatic event tore them apart and they lost contact until Selene shows up on Tansy's doorstep asking to help her daughter, Jupiter.
It is a thriller about female friendship, mental illness, and how far friends will go to protect each other. There are so many plot twists in this book it had me hooked and I didn't want to put the book down! I could not recommend this more if you are a fan of thrillers.

About 20 years ago Tansy & Selene were best friends. They worked together, had fun and shared everything… until that one dreadful evening.
Tansy can’t cope with what happened and severs all ties. But the Selene shows up at Tansy’s work demanding a favor. She want her to find out what’s going on with her daughter, Jupiter & her boyfriend. Tansy doesn’t want to, but she owes Selene for what happened back in the day…
A thrilling story about family, lies and protecting the people you love.
Enjoyed reading this ARC and definitely recommend! Maybe advisable to check TW.

I usually don’t read a lot of thrillers but when I read the blur I knew I had to read this. This book had me so invested I read it anywhere I went, it invaded my every thought. I am a crime whore I love watching true crime documentaries and love crime shows, so this book was just perfect for me. I love tansy’s character she wasn’t a good person nor a bad like she wasn’t overly perfect and she did many mistakes but it made it so much better and her relationship with zack was so cute they are truly made for each other. I was legit on the edge of my seat so many times even if I predicted some of the plot twists it was still amazing.
This story is about a girl named Tansy who lives terror about something that happened 20 years ago. She has run away and refused to think about what happened that night. But she has no choice but to deal with the guilt and the pain when Serena her formal best friend comes back in her life demanding to pay back the favor of what she did to her that night 20 years ago.
Trust me you will not regret this book every character was so complex and so interesting to read about. It was a bit slow for my taste at the beginning and I almost DNF it but I am glad I didn’t. I am 100% buying this book when it comes out and shoving it down everyone’s throats.
