Pretty much just a recap of the movie with a lot of pictures, there wasn’t any new information besides some mildly interesting Suzanne Collins quotes.

I don't even remember when I bought this book. A very long time ago, I guess. But this month I'm trying to clean out my TBR, I read this book on the bus to work this morning. I didn't even make it to the train station with it, because it was more picture than text, but as a short introduction to the Hunger Games world it actually manages to summarize the world and the book quite well.

The book presents a mixture of the story we see in the movie, the extra storylines we get in the book and the views and meanings from Collins behind her writing and world. What I like is how the book clearly explains the roots of this story (in ancient Rome, Greece and the contemporary reality shows we all watch) and that it's not even a far stretch from where we are today, although some people might feel it is.

For me the text sometimes was a little too simple, almost phrased like a children's book and the pictures and the text didn't always completely line up. But it's a nice little booklet to have on the shelf with the rest of my collection.

I read this digitally on my Paperwhite so I wasn’t mesmerized by photos or photo quality. It was a quick read, which I did because I’m teaching a Dystopian Film elective course. I was able to grab a couple quotes that I can use to probe my students’ thinking, but wish it had more behind-the-scenes info about the author’s, director’s, and costume department’s choices. This felt pretty surface level, but then again, it only took about 15 minutes to read.

It was okay, but I basically already knew everything in it. It was mostly pictures. Some of them were interesting and others I had seen before. It was a super duper uper quick read.

- This is a companion book for the movie.

- I already knew most of it, but it did have some fun new facts from the author in it. I really like where the name Panem came from! It is so fitting!

- The book is filled with great pictures from the movie. I got to look at the different scenes and moments for longer than a split second.

- Sometimes Peeta looks hot and other times he is eh.

- This made me REALLY excited for the Catching Fire movie!! SQUEE!!

- This also brought back memories of the first time I met some of my favorite blogger people!

- I think this is a worthwhile read for Hunger Game fans.

Disappointing. There wasn’t anything new in this volume and the snapshots from the movie were not even really ones I was excited to see. I continue to long to see the parade costumes from the non-District-12 tributes. This is purely a companion book and not a movie guide. In comparing it to the Twilight movie companion books, this falls far, far short; at least those books provided insight into the filming process and actors’ thoughts. All-in-all, I’m super glad I didn’t buy this and it isn’t even one I would encourage HG fans to borrow much less buy.
