I definitely did not expect the ending of this book at any point. Every time I thought I knew what happened I was proven wrong. Really solid book!

I loved this, several twists at the end that kept me guessing. Several times during the story I thought I had figured out the ending, yet I was way off! I liked how the book was telling 2 stories consecutively. Both Maggie's story and her father's work of fiction about Baneberry Hall which everything centered around. I really didn't know if this was a crime or horror novel right until the very end!

Fun spooky story about a haunted house. Goes back-and-forth between the daughter’s present and the book her father wrote 25 years ago with lots of twists and turns along the way. I also accidentally stole this from the LA County library… My bad. Thank you, LA County library!

While there were some fun and scary twists and turns, and I didn’t guess the end until just before the end... it was a so so book. The whole book was written in a kind of goosebumpy voice that was equally as cheesy in parts. The characters didn’t have their own voice. Fun read but maybe just for the beach or pool where you don’t care about the quality of writing as much.

2.5

I'm surprised this is Sager's best reviewed book (if you can put any stock in Goodreads reviews) because I found it the most lacking. If his previous book was a take on Rosemary's Baby this one is a take on Hill House to much less effect. Too many glaring conveniences to overlook and the format is becoming terribly played out. Another easy read but I wouldn't tell anyone to rush out and grab it.
