I had no idea what to expect from this little novella, but it did not disappoint, that's for sure. I am very impressed with how fleshed out this story felt considering it was a mere 150ish pages long. I found myself caring very deeply for the main characters (especially the sweet and definitely neurodiverse-coded Lilith) and was completely invested in the romance - which reminded me a lot of the romance between Dracula and his wife in Castlevania (the animated tv show).

I can't wait to continue the Crowns of Nyaxia series now. I'm really enjoying Carissa Broadbent's writing, and I'm 2/2 on enjoyment with her books thus far! Bring on The Ashes and the Star Cursed King!!!

Following the suggested reading order, I read this book immediately after finishing The Serpent and the Wings of Night. While I now know the characters introduced are in book 2 of the Crowns of Nyaxia series, I enjoyed it as a view from elsewhere in that world. I can’t wait to see how this whole story progresses.
