I marathoned this series in one week years ago and have constantly revisited it ever since (especially during the months just before Remberance was released). The main protagonist/narrator, though annoying at times, was the type of person I could relate to while also being someone who I (as a 13 year old at the time) could aspire to be. Now as an adult I still love to read this series as Meg Cabot remains one of my favourite 'chick lit' YA authors to date.

This book was fantastic in introducing Suze as a badass mediator, as well as establishing the relationship between her and Jesse (which looking back on it, developed amazingly - thank you Meg!). Suze, like many of Cabot's main characters, is a relateble character for any teenage girl/young woman, who is flawed in a realistic way (rather than being Mary Sue), and who also noticably develops throughout the series. Each of the charcters within the series, but particularly those introduced within Book One, are all characters who will remind you of someone in your own personal life while also being very diverse from eachother. The ghost as well, though seemingly bratty, has been written in a way that you do feel sympathetic towards her (or at least I did upon rereading), though you do ultimatly agree with Suze's need to excoricise her.

Overall another fantastic, enjoyable start to an epic seires, Meg Cabot you've done it again.

Reading this book as an adult was no less of an entertaining experience as it was for me as a teen. I still love Suze, Jesse, and Father Dom, and it's been fun returning to these characters and this story from the very beginning of the series. That being said, there are moments surrounding the history of Father Serra and the native Americans that did make me wince. Overall, the mediator is still a really fun YA that I'd happily revisit again in a couple of years.

A super fun beginning to the series. I'm already anxiously awaiting the next book at the library.
