This is such a cute book. There is a chosen one trope which was okay because it wasn't obvious. I loved the friendships and the attitudes of Zoe's parents. I loved the griffin cubs too. They were so adorable. I am so excited to read the rest of the series. An absolute delight to read!

The Menagerie by Tui T. Sutherland and Kari Sutherland is the perfect read for any kid (or adult) lover of mythical creatures of any sort. The griffon cubs have escaped from the super top-secret menagerie. And Logan meets Zoe and Blue as they are trying to hunt them down. Sure, he may think they’re just looking for Zoe’s dog at first. But his tracking skills quickly become the very thing they need to find the cubs.

Logan figures out it isn’t a dog, and his cat, Persimmon (I had to give this awesome feline a shout-out), is not happy about the development of learning about these creatures. As the kids track the babies down, they start to realize that all may not be right at the menagerie. Odd things (besides the griffon escape) are going on, and they are on the verge of being shut down.

The Menagerie is full of friendship, unexpected magic, and just a little mystery. Full of magical creatures, it draws across cultures and mythos to build a place full of things to discover.

This was a fun book that I wish had been around when I was in grade/middle school. I enjoyed the characters (especially the griffins) and the story. I think it is good for girls, boys and anyone else who likes mythical creatures. I'm disappointed that the next one won't be out until March.

This was a really great, easy-reading, fun book for those who enjoy magic & mythology in their reading. I'd say it would be best for elementary (lower grades if read to them & higher grades if they're independent readers) kids. It's probably similar enough to Harry Potter to be a good bet though it is much easier to read in terms of skill level & danger/drama levels. I think it would be a great stepping stone toward reading HP on their own - and for deciding if this genre is for them.

My 9 year-old son and I read this series together and it was a great book to read aloud. He was so excited about it that I had to hide it from him so he wouldn't read too far ahead without me. Great story, interesting characters, and good messages for all ages.

After Logan's mom disappears, he and his dad move from Chicago to Wyoming in the hopes of finding her. What Logan ends up finding instead is a baby griffin hiding underneath his bed. As he tries to make sense of the mythical creature in his bedroom, he ends up at the house of the strangest girl in his grade. There he discovers "The Menagerie," a mythical creature preserve, complete with griffins, unicorns, merpeople, a yeti, and more. With the other griffin cubs still missing, Logan joins Zoe and Blue in the search, hoping to find them before it is too late. This is a bit more light-hearted than Fablehaven, another fabulous series about mythical creatures, and can be read by a younger crowd. You might want to have the second book on hand, though, it ends on a cliff-hanger! Highly recommended to grades 3-6.

Pretty good! I loved the adventure vibe. It was a little slow moving, though. I kind of expected it to work ok as a standalone, but it's definitely part of a series. Would recommend to someone looking for a new series.
