Overall this was a very solid and enjoyable read, as I knew it would be! I was worried about having 4 main characters, as it felt hard to keep up with at first. However, Kaur did a great job of creating 4 distinct characters.
I’m excited to see what Kaur does next!
I have two complains: The first is that Isaiah’s story was not wrapped up properly. What happened with him and his father?? It would have been nice to see the conversation he had once he realized his dad knew about the killings. I feel like the epilogue could have been just a bit sharper.
The second is thatSam and Neera’s sort of romance was not really addressed by the author and we barely got any recognition to their chemistry or possible romance. Everything was just wrapped up without that being addressed.

The second is that
Graphic: Death, Gore, Suicide, Blood, Death of parent
Moderate: Addiction
Minor: Alcoholism, Animal death, Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Murder

This started out really great but kind of fell off at the end. The second part and the finale was kinda rushed and it ends pretty abruptly and with lots of questions still unanswered.
Also a few things were just a little too convenient, like the characters kept accidentally finding things that helped them with their investigation.
What really carried this book for me tho was the setting and atmosphere, it was creepy without being too scary, but kept me engaged all the way through. Overall I really enjoyed it. I also really liked the podcast segments!
I really hope there’s gonna be a second book to tie up some of the loose ends. Also I need Neerah to have a better ending! Bc what do you mean she’s still in the clutches of not only a literal devil but also her evil father?!

Kaur does a good job giving the different characters different voices in the multi POV debut. I did find some of the characters more compelling / more fleshed out than others.
The central mystery of the book is told with the backdrop of characters individual goals (some are more directly interested in the missing persons case than others) and a haunted town.
Audiobook: multiple narrators for multiple characters! I'm always a fan of that. The podcast segments were also fun.

Very engaging but ended very abruptly. It felt like it was all building and then, suddenly, it ended. There were a number of unanswered questions, which left me feeling really unsatisfied. Mainly, we didn’t hear anything about Reid or Dawson in the epilogue? Hello? I also loved the idea of three devils, and desperately wish we could have had more background and lore on them.
