Read a spoiler accidentally and now I know it's absolutely pointless to listen to another 15hrs just to be mad at the ending. A bit florid and wordy for my taste anyway so I'm not too sad to stop reading.
Just a three. The introduction to the Oxford World Classics edition notes that "while well reviewed, many [contemporary] reviewers nevertheless hesitated over its length, its relative inaction, and its sometimes curious narrative decisions." That just about sums it up really. The first 10%, and last 20%, were worth it - I'm unsure about the rest.

Slow burn book that just gets better and better as it goes and you end up literally shook to your core and tearing through the final pages internally screaming. Some plot points didn’t age that well and it took me some effort to overcome my modern sensibilities to really get into the story-that’s my only hang-up. Otherwise, five stars for characters, setting, story, themes, and plot twists I didn’t expect. I’m obsessed.

Witty, with beautiful house descriptions. A very fast read of 600+ pages.
