Wasn't planning to rate this 5 stars, but holy hell those last hundred pages were a ride. Couldn't put the book down, a lot of jumping up in shock and quickly turning to the next page. So glad I waited for the third book to come out before reading this because I need to go pick it up right now.
No spoilers. Read via physical.
Ok. I finally understand the hype of this series now. WOW! This has soooooo much unpacked in it and still has soooo many questions left with that cliffhanger so if book three is anything like this wow, I’m going to love this series. Such a great YA fantasy, and it has a way to get you so lost in the book you forget you’re reading and not living in it seeing this all happen. Ugh my heart with these emotions. Funny thing, I was going to read another book after this, before book 3 and jokes on me, I will not be. Book 3 here I come!!
Would I recommend? YES, definitely worth the journey.

This book is an adventure as a new curse is cast, and chaos unfolds. While the characters only were compelling to me in the second half (probably would have been the whole book if I read the first book more recently), it was still interesting and I loved the ending (minus the memory loss. Why? I just hope its done well, becausei hate it when its not) . Overall, it was really good. I'm really interested to see how it ends in the last book (hopefully it will be soon enough that I actually remember what happened).
We return to the Magnificent North for the second instalment in Stephanie Garber's trilogy. The story begins with Evangeline desperately searching for a way to wake Apollo from his suspended state, but her plans quickly unravel when a new curse is placed on her. With no choice but to ally with Jacks, she is pulled into his quest to track down the stones needed to open the Valory Arch, a journey that leads them through strange, magical, and unforgettable places.
I found myself enjoying this book even more than the first.
The new settings, like the enchanted grove, added depth, wonder and wonder to the world. I also loved seeing the characters grow and reveal more layers of themselves as we learn more about their histories. The stakes felt higher, the tension sharper, and the magical lore richer, all of which kept me completely hooked. The ending was dramatic - managing to outdo even the finale of the first book - and left me wanting to dive straight into the final instalment.
