I just overall really enjoyed this book! It wasn’t perfect and there were a more loose threads than I may have wanted, but it was a lovely experience and is making me ache to be in Paris! (And to speak French)

I wanted to like it more, but the plot felt underdeveloped and too perfect. Everything just falls into place so easily. There were a lot of storylines that felt like they could have been their own stories rather than several put into one book that were too limited. I think it needed to narrow focus and deepen the story.

Also the trauma was a wild choice. Not a total spoiler, but got a (startling) account of child abuse from the beginning for Stella that I suppose is supposed to be a reason she’s so shy and hesitant? But I think her mother was a good enough reason for that, and we never saw her work through this past abuse or see it provide any other substance to the plot.

I will say the descriptions of food were great and I liked where she was going with some of the characters. I love how real people and parts of history intermingled with the plot. The quest for the painting was very interesting and I learned something new. But could have been its own story.

So boring! Didn’t connect AT ALL to the MC or supporting characters.

Read for a book group. It was Ok. Kind of slow paced. Lots of weird food but it was set in France. Not a spectacular read .

Picked this one for book club based on recommendations by some of my booksellers, but it sadly wasn't super well received by my group. I enjoyed it as escapism and the side characters were a delight, but I admit the plot was a bit thin and the romance felt like a undeveloped afterthought. It read kind of like "Forrest Gump Does Paris" or the film Midnight in Paris (please excuse the Woody Allen reference) with so many key historical figures popping up. It did make me hungry!!
