3.5/5! This was a really cute, quick read that felt like a love letter to so many things I love: art history, female artists, fine dining and wine, oysters, fashion, and Paris. While this is a book where everything seems to work out for our main character, it always felt serendipitous vs. forced. There was also a level of complexity and depth to the main character I didn’t expect, and it was beautiful to see her grow and evolve despite the challenges. The allusion to a happy ending in the final chapters also made me happy. All in all, a good (although fairly predictable) read with an appreciation for my favorite things!

A bit conflicted on how I feel about this. I really liked the dress shop and thought that would play a much bigger role in the story. It was also fun to read about the bookstore and the little community that was created there.

HOWEVER,

the second chapter of the book contains quite a detailed account of child sexual assault, and I really think the story could have gone without it. It didnt really serve any benefit to the story and it was barely touched upon in regards to character development.

Throughout the rest of the book, I found myself easily getting bored and the ending felt quite abrupt.

Favourite book of the year. Might help that I absolutely love France and the words just transported me right back. Amazing imagery.

Gorgeous story, I loved it. It's got a very memoir-ish feel but so compelling and the writing was beautiful.
